Ok, the  was to show it wasn't serious, since I was sure either the range or degree of measure would be off. I'll check.

Thanks

I know the juvenile GSP I brought home last week wiped out all the snails in the tank in about a day...there were at least 3 types in there, one of which was MTS, but they were all under 1/8 in size. It was funny seeing all the 'shell debris' piled in the java moss.

I'll check some of the other LFS; the chains want about $12-14 for them; I'll have to check my brewing hydrometer and see what the range on it is ;-)

He might post over at 'fishgeeks' and see if there is someone on that forum local. (not to spam this forum with another's, just thought I'd pass the info on). I think I got my MTS from there. Has he looked on aquabid to see if there is a seller of snails that's in the UK?

I know when I kept Scats and Monos while in college about 12 years ago, there were plants that you could 'acclimate' but I never had success. The old plastic ones seemed to work for the fish then. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a hydrometer.

Ok...so 2 questions; a good hydrometer for BW, and are there any plants that are sold specifically for BW?

They Hydrometers I saw for sale were scaled more for SW, and on one model the high end BW were the lowest readings. :-(

Yeah, I've already started to pull the Java Moss out and swap in rocks and such from my other aquariums. I'll have to get some plastic plants to liven it up in there for him since the salinity increase will rule out those plants.

Would a 20 Gal setup work for him if he got up to 6 inches or would 30 be better? At that size, would he tolerate anyone else in the tank?

I'm putting on my asbestos firefighter jacket, strapping on helmet and other protective gear...wait for it.... He's in a 10 gal tank. I had plan on keeping him in there until he grows a bit, and then putting him in the larger tank. It's got a heater, aeration, a HOB filter, and currently live plants...

I know they're great fish; I just was hoping I wouldn't have to go all the way to 'salt water'. Do they do well in just brackish water? The few articles I've read say they need full on salt water to be health...

Any brackish puffer people in Portland Oregon?

My son picked out a fish the other day, and after ID'ing him and reading up, I think he is a Green Spotted Puffer (Tetraodon nigroviridis). I understand that this guy can start out in fresh, but ideally, he needs very brackish water or full on Salt water as an adult. I would prefer to keep my tanks ...
