Re: new baileyi pair
Thanks for your comments, everyone! Sorry about the murky tank....of course the darn puffers decided to get up to no good at the most inconvenient time--just after I re-arranged the tank decor and stirred up a bunch of debris, and just before I did a massive water change... That is one of ...

Re: new baileyi pair
thanks! :) I have a really good LFS (The Wet Spot in Portland, OR) that brings in a lot of cool stuff. They get in a lot of cool puffers. Makes me really want to go back and get the remaining 4 hairys there, but I don't know how I would come up with all that extra tank space on short notice...especi...

Re: new baileyi pair
Autophotos, no offense taken! Although I won't mention your comment to the puffers (might ruin the mood  ) *EDIT* I won't tell them you called them "ugly", but the Barry White comment I will pass on to the puffers! LOL L!$A, I don't know if this will help, but here are direct links...

Re: new baileyi pair
UPDATE! Lots of exciting puffer news. First off, still no more progress from the original pair. I added a ceramic pot to their tank to see if a spawning cave would help them along, but they paid no attention to it. Then, on monday, I had the opportunity to pick out a couple more hairy puffers. I got...

Re: new baileyi pair
Thanks, everyone.... Here is another update after a long stretch of work. I am pretty sure the pair went through a "practice run" at spawning a few nights ago. They were hovering near the back of the tank where I could not see them very well, and I noticed that the female had turned a weir...

Re: Hairy Puffer Pics
Hi, just got back on the forum after a long stretch at work. I have a pair of hairy puffers that is showing spawning behavior, although they are not proven breeders (yet). With my pair, there is no difference in the amount of "hairiness" between the male and female. The only physical diffe...

Re: new baileyi pair
A quick update on the puffers... Both have continued to do well, with no aggression toward one another. They are alert and feed well on whatever I put in the tank for them to eat. Of course they spend most of their time 'lurking', but in the morning after the lights go on, they usually buzz around t...

Re: new baileyi pair
Thanks everyone for your kind words and warm welcome! :) Pufferpunk, They are in a 55 gal at the moment. That is exactly what I was thinking, to break up the line of sight as much as possible. I know it is very hard to tell from my poor photography skills, but the tank is much more packed with decor...

new baileyi pair
Hi everyone, This is our first post to this forum, and if all goes well, will (hopefully) become a log of our efforts to breed baileyi. As a short introduction, we have kept various species of puffers off and on for years (along with many other species of freshwater, brackish, and marine fish and in...
