Sorry Pufferpunk, I didn't explain myself. What I meant by cleaning is using the vaccume and cleaning the gravel on the bottom of the aquarium.

I understand, they are messy eaters. My puffer aquarium is the cleanest aquarium I own and I clean it once a month. There doesn't seem to be that much waste. So doing monthly water changes isn't enough?

No way, I wouldn't give them up. I would treat the ick before I give them away. I just am not certain if its even ick. I clean the water whenever it needs to be changed, I would say approximately once a month or sometimes a little less.

I am thinking of buying aragonite for a substrate in my 35 gallon with my 4 figure-eight puffers and four bumblebee gobies. Is it hard to clean or can I use the vacuum the same way I would on rocks. Does it scratch the aquarium?
