I have two GSPs, Sir Prizes and Patches. They currently live with a (usually docile and recluse) freshwater lionfish named George Bernard.

LOL! that was hilarious. And yes, waaay less violent than what happened earlier today. My new puffer, Patches, was halfway in the mouth of the lion. It was.. unusual.. Luckily, he's okay.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about general freshwater lionfish (or toad fish) behavior.. My GSP (who is very small!) lives with one and they get along great. However, I bought a new puffer and the lionfish doesn't seem to like him that much and attacked him. All fish are ok, but has anyone ...

am i right in thinking there is no way to know for sure that a bio-filter has established, other than monitoring the water conditions (nitrate/nitrite)?

absolutely. got a water testing kit today, so i'll be able to check the parameters daily without having to make trips to the store.

Good news! After a quick water change with the little tank the puffer seemed much happier. I have since moved him to the 20g tank and he's clearly ecstatic. Everything checks out fine.

My other half read all links very carefully (as he was the one setting up the new tank today), so hopefully the brackish mix will be made right. I plan to take water samples to the fish store this evening and make sure everything checks out. Fingers crossed

We used the Seachem Stability last night in hopes that it would fix the problem. We're using marine salt to create a brackish environment for the fish.
I'm thinking it could be the ammonia that's causing him to be unhappy, so perhaps with the larger tank, things will go back to normal. I'll keep tabs

Good news. Found an old 20g tank I had years ago. The boyfriend is off to pick up some BioSpira and begin to set up the new tank and cycle it. We read over the link you guys posted.
