Is it possible that it has some circle markings like cross river puffers? Probably unlikely but, I figured I'd throw that out there.

I should have said, they have the potential to grow 2 inches in a month. I clearly remember reading a person's fahaka growing roughly 2 inches in a month. Best sand to use IMO is a silica sand. Finer grain than pool filter but not nearly as light as playsand. As soon as I switched my fahaka over to sand he starting burying himself that night. I'm just going to go with pool filter sand, since I know where I can find it and its pretty cheap. I'll be sure to post some pictures when I'm done setting up the tank and cycling it.

I feel like trying sand since I've never had it before. After a bit of searching I found HTH for $5.35 for a 50 lb bag. I might go that route.

Pool Filter sand is looking pretty good so far. There is a pool store less than a mile away from my house. Going to see what they have tomorrow. Any specific brands I should look for?

Thanks for the fast response. I've used both gravel and barebottom tanks but have no experience with sand. I've always been worried about anaerobic pockets building from not being stirred. Is it easy to turn without it getting the filters and ruining the propellers?
