I've also used formations of river/ocean rock that I've sterilised at home to make little nooks and such for them to explore. Even with a lot going on in the tank, they may still pace a bit. Mine do if they catch a glance of someone near them. Once you're away or have stopped moving they tend to go ...

It's very easy to sex DPs. If they have a keel stripe they're male and if not they're female.

I do the same thing with all new agrogate. It generally takes quite a few rinses before the water is fairly clear for each load I do.

Val americanus does pretty good in BW for me. (1.005 SG). My Java ferns don't do as well but they're still pottering along.

I've had the same experience as RTR. The Val Ameri is the only thing that has "thrived" in my BW tank, and it's had its ups and downs. The java ferns I've haven't done as well.. they grow but tend to damage and die easily so the bulk of them end up budding off and remain in the baby stage....

Aquarium salt? egad. I hope from your later statements that you're switching to marine salt, like instant ocean.

You're definately going to need a hydrometer, and better yet a refractometer. I just got mine today and it's night and day. I'd go for the refractometer right off the bat.

Yeah, if you've only had those feeders in for 24 hours your tank is JUST starting... without Bio-Spira it will take over a week to cycle it properly. I cycle mine for about 3 weeks before adding fish to them. I'd go for the Figures 8s too. I think they're prettier ;-) but basically they're also less...

I swear by Yamato Green fertilizer. I use no CO2, just Jobe's sticks in the substrate (by roots). I have 4 48" striplights over my 90g tank: Jobe's sticks? What are those. I'm running double tube T-5 stips on all our tanks. That's only 36watts a tank, though they're very bright for the output.

I don't inject C02, but I do add an organic carbon fertilizer. The first few ones I had in the 20gal didn't fair too well after a month but I think it was more to do with the BGA infestation I had. I don't have any photos of it but it was looking like a complete strip down of the tank, but a weeks w...

I'm optimist. Not inteligently so, but I hope ;-) The javaferns in the 20gal are doing fine now andd the Cabomba seems to still be green and growing so I'm pretty sure they'll be ok. The rest are all experimental. If there's one thing I prefer for my tanks is a "natural" feel to them. No f...

Yeah these are regular Vals, not too sure on the exact species but I've heard them refered to as elephantine vals, but who really knows. I have some in my 25gal FW tank, they never really look "great" but they're a a fast grower. We'll see how things turn out in the next month
