Nerite snails in brackish water
I have read that you can't breed Nerite snails in freshwater, but has anyone been successful at breeding them in brackish water? These are such awesome snails, I have them in my other tanks and they really keep things spic and span.

What lurking underneath those hollow ornaments
So, while doing a water change today I decided to move a hollow piece of driftwood just to make some variety for my little Hercules (baby figure 8 ). This is a resin driftwood, not a real driftwood. I HAD intended to use real driftwood, but I really liked the look of this aritificial one, and I deci...

Re: Brackish Water Plants
I haven't had my tank set up very long, but so far water sprite seems to be doing well in brackish water here. I also put in a few plants from my fresh water tanks that needed thinning, just to see how they'd do. The jury is still out. The water sprite was the only one I bought specifically for brac...

Re: How frequently to feed baby Figure 8
Your listed diet is not very high-crunch to me. HTH I was going to get some snails for him, but the fish store guy indicated he was a bit too young for that. He said he had given him dead snails, but that he had only sucked the snail out from the shell rather than breaking it. What would you sugges...

Re: How frequently to feed baby Figure 8
Thanks very much. I didn't know about the fasting one day thing... is this true even for babies? I figure their tummies are smaller (which was why I was wondering about frequency). I can see his tummy stretch when he eats though, so maybe it's not so small.

How frequently to feed baby Figure 8
Hello all. I recently became the proud momma of a baby figure 8 puffer, name Hercules. He is my third puffer (the first looked like the one in the Puffer Forum logo- with the Santa hat (who unfortunately died shortly after I got him), the second is a Valentini puffer (about 7yrs old I think) This, h...

Re: stars and stripes puffer sick?
So what is that then? Vibrio? If so, do you know where I can find more information on it? I searched the library, and googled it. Maybe it has another name?

Re: Teeth issue?
So, tonight he opened his mouth really wide and it IS his teeth. They are lopsided for some reason. No! I can't do this!
File them down I mean. Is there any chance of him wearing them down himself, if I keep giving him shelled food?

Re: stars and stripes puffer sick?
I doubt it was a from the lionfish, but I really can't say for certain as I don't watch them continuously. Fabio (the lionfish) is pretty mellow, though he does give a short chase to one of the triggers now and then. More of a 'piss off' message. The eel and the lionfish actually 'snuggle' or so it ...

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). With the exception of today, the pH has always been 7.8. This morning it was 8.2. The only change is that I had moved the Fluval filter to another tank yesterday (explanation is in the thread about the sick star...

Re: stars and stripes puffer sick?
Very serious indeed. Kiwi just died. :( I gave him one dose of Maracyn Plus out of desperation, but it didn't do any good. The skin that was flaking on the outside seemed to be flaking on the inside too, nad he would spit out bits of skin. I am devastated. :( I hope that someone can tell me what thi...

Teeth issue?
Hi all. About 4 wks ago I bought a tank that already came stocked with fish. One of them was a Valentini puffer, whom we have named Olivander. He is so sweet, he looks like a little humming bird. Apparently he's about 5 yrs old. I have been feeding all the fish in the tank the food given by the prev...

Re: stars and stripes puffer sick?
Actually I have the space for a 2-300 gallon tank, and will certainly keep that in mind as Kiwi grows. I just couldn't sneak another tank in that size so soon. In the meantime, I have moved Kiwi to a hospital tank, and so far I've only given him Melafix. He continues to worsen. :( I think it m...
