Re: possible IP infection
I have a Fahaka puffer around 3-3.5" TL. He eats, still active, comes to the front of the tank. He's not that interested in food as he used to be, but still eats freezedried krill. Right now he will just eat one piece of krill when he used to eat 3 pieces, and used to be able to eat up to 5 (st...

Re: Is this a mappa puffer?
It lacks all color characteristics of a A. mappa (star like pattern around the eyes, labyrinth pattern on the body) and has all what is needed at the adult stage of A. stellatus (black spots on a white to grey background). Thanks! Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for (ie, what specifically ...

Re: Is this a mappa puffer?
Before I give them the bad news, how sure are you two? Would it help if I got high resolution photos of the puffer to make a 100% positive ID or are you already sure that is what it is?

Is this a mappa puffer?
Saw this at my LFS. Not interested in buying it, just want to help them ID it because they aren't 100% sure but they think it's a mappa. Whatever it is, it is VERY nice... It's about 12-15" now. b9EEAt7TrdU&fmt=35 So is it really a Mappa puffer, or something else? Could it be Arothron stell...

Re: Thoughts on T. pustulatus/T. lineatus hybridization
What really is needed to clear things up is: examining the original specimens (and their descriptions) with which T. pustulatus was described for the first time and compare them to T. lineatus populations at least morphologically, preferably even genetically. Exactly! That is what Ad Konings is doi...

Re: Thoughts on T. pustulatus/T. lineatus hybridization
Also I don't think there has been any ichthyological study on the 'hybrid' pustulatus vs 'pure' ones and lineatus. Until a proper study and DNA analysis is done, for all we know the 'hybrids' could actually be a legitimate variation and not a man-cause (or natural) hybridization. And either way, as ...

Re: Funny Question in Magazine
What magazine was it?
Was it the overrated one? (TFH)
Practical Fish Keeping? Or another one?
But yeah that is hilarious... They likely bought that puffer at a box store or just be completely oblivious to not know a fish with a big mouth will try to eat any living things it can fit in its mouth...

Question about puffer anatomy (again, this time about gills)
I have a question about puffer fish anatomy again... How do puffers breath after they bury themselves in sand? Do they just leave the sand when they need more oxygen, or just need a very well oxygenated tank and absorb water through the sand that way? Just wondering since gill movement seems like it...

Well, you know what they say -- you do stupid things and stupid things happen to you! :duncebl: He got exactly what he deserved. Good for you puff! :grats: LOL he even hesitates when the puffer opens its mouth WIDER and still decides to put his finger in there! That reminds me of the idiot that cau...

Re: Internal parasite?
Anyway, the same importer I got the two puffers from last time (sold the other one months ago) still has one left that I already prepaid for. Should be picking it up this week. Naturally I'll be keeping a closer eye on it this time for any emaciation, beak growth, and feed it more crunchy foods. I f...

The only liquid form I could find was cherry flavored crap. I'm not sure that would've been too great for the puffer!

Re: Porcupine puffer got stuck in filter
My puffer sometimes lays against the overflow to sleep. I was alarmed at first but have learned it is just something he likes. Don't know if this translates to your situation. Was he stuck to the point he couldn't get off? Anyways, better luck next time and i hope you give the next the proper space...

All the houseplants are outside for the summer so I can't put a toxic fish in them either.pufferpuggirl wrote:Do you have any houseplants? I usually bury any dead fish in my plants, outside or inside ones. It's a remembrance for the fish I've lost and it's actually a very good fertiliser for the plant.
