DP's in Fluval Edge?
Just had a thought worth running by you guys. I've gone straight SW lately and wanted to try a little FW again with that new Fluval Edge tank. Do you think it would be viable to breed Dwarf puffers in it? I know the min. size is 5 gal and this is a 6 gal tank. I'm used to caring for puffers and like...

Re: The new tool on the block.
You can even buy Turkey Basters "On-A-Stick" to keep your arm above water. No idea how much those run, probably too much. I may have to invest since my clownfish keep trying to taste me.....

Re: Making your own syphon?
For awhile took a small power head that I pulled out of a cheap 10gal filter and used it to start a syphon. Although all you really need to do is scoop up water with the syphon and pinch off the hose, then start the syphon by letting the water flow out after you put the head of the syphon back into ...

Re: the new gsp is still acting wierd??
Is it a swing arm hydrometer? I haven't seen any of those that measure below 1.010 or 1.012. Anything below that you may need a refractometer or one of those old school glass hydrometers.

Re: problem with the upgraded tank
The protein skimmer won't really work until you raise the salinity to 1.018 or higher and works best at 1.022 - 1.025. Good thing you already have one for later though. PP has a good article on GSPs and salinity in the library.

Re: problem with the upgraded tank
You should be fine with the gravel then, did you upgrade your filtration as well? :) the GSP sounds extra cute! mine kind of behaves like that, but its more like hes being lazy than anything else, prolly because hes so fat! he lays down in a little LR cave I made, and when he swims out he always has...

Re: problem with the upgraded tank
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm canny sure that the vast majority of the bacteria grows on surfaces, not in the water column. You're right. :) I was just thinking about having enough substrate from a 25g to work in a 95g(4x the size!). When adding new substrate it should be mixed up and not...

Re: problem with the upgraded tank
I don't think the dark belly is anything to worry about, especially in a new tank, just a sign of stress. I don't remember how much water was in your old tank, but for an upgrade to a 95 it may have a small cycle. For brackish water you might try nerite snails, but until the puffers are 3-4" th...

Re: Type of lighting
I'm pretty sure your tank is the same dimensions(or close to) as my BW f8 puffer tank. I had an old plastic trap door hood on it, it was really nasty, and I decided to overhaul the hood and light. This morning I just went to petsmart and got an all-glass(Marineland) lid for it for only $20, it made ...

Re: Is there a food to make my GSPs more colorful?
Marine garlic and some vitamins will make them healtier. My gsp looked more colorful after i added garlix xtreme and selcon to his food. Lighting can have alot to do with it also.

Re: Added more pants for my F8's
I just added two java ferns and a mangrove to my BW 40g biotope, but i'm new to plants and since these are supposedly very hardy ill stick with that until I get the hang of it. I heard those moss balls will work in BW but I'm afraid to try it.

Re: Starting a Brackish Aquarium
Since its a sticky, and off-topic, about a year ago my gsp ate a knight goby. Couldnt decide if i was impressed or disappointed..... But hes in full sw now and is still afraid of my 5" scarlet cleaner shrimp. Maybe its the whiskers, id be scared too.
