Re: Mutha-Fahaka finally eating frozen
all expenses aside, If you just want to throw flake food into an aquarium then a fahaka is definitely not the fish for you, As stated above different animals have different dietary needs, If i were you i would concentrate on my 29 other tanks and 999 other fish and sell the fahaka to someone who is...

Re: Mutha-Fahaka finally eating frozen
Have you done any research for what kinds of food they eat? If you keep many kinds of fish, then you should know that each one of them has a different diet. Bettas don't eat goldfish food, ciclids don't eat betta food, etc. $10 a month is nothing to feed a fish. I'm currently a college student with...

Re: Mutha-Fahaka finally eating frozen
[quote="Christemo"]If expense is your biggest problem, you probably shouldn't have gotten a tank to begin with... I have about 30 tanks so feeding one fish $10 a month is ridiculous when I'm feeding hundreds of fish in outdoor ponds for that price. This puffer is an addition not the extent...

Re: mbu experiment
That's it I'm getting an mbu. I've only had my fahaka for a few weeks but he is satan incarnate. I wasn't really too keen on watching him live in a 125 gallon all by himself. After seeing yours together and those angelfish I'm gonna get an mbu or two (or four) and build a pond for them. Lucky I live...

Re: Mutha-Fahaka finally eating frozen
That sounds like he'll be eating better then I am. What have you heard about a krill only diet being bad? Krill is good enough for blue whales but not my little fahaka? The Bruce wrote:i would switch over to market prawns, cockles, scallops n such, i've heard bad things about a mostly krill diet.

Mutha-Fahaka finally eating frozen
I've had my little mutha-fahaka for a few weeks now and I've been feeding him live crayfish. In the beginning I tried to starve him and feed him frozen krill but after 4 days he wasn't having that. Well today he finally ate two pieces of frozen krill so I can stop spending a $1 a crayfish. I think h...

Re: My New Fahaka
Thanks for the melafix link. Really helpful. I have question for those in the know. My litle 4" fahaka's coloring is exactly the same as the fahaka in these photos. A mix of mottled and stripes. Does this go away as they get bigger or is it variable. There are sometimes when he has more defined...

Re: Parasite treatments for fahaka
Is he normally shaped (like a footbal) & does his poop look good (not white or stringy)? I don't treat every single puffer that comes into my house for IPs. He is shaped like a football. His poop is small, red colored, and pill-like. I guess its red because I've been feeding him live crayfish. ...

Re: Parasite treatments for fahaka
Thanks for all the quick responses. I'm glad I didn't get flamed for not looking around first. Thanks alot I can see this is a great forum. Anyway, I don't really know the guy who had the fahaka he was selling it on a local fish forum here in Hawaii. As the fish is only 4" long I would assume h...

Parasite treatments for fahaka
Well I just joined and I know if I spent a few hours looking around I'd probably find the answer. But I'd prefer an answer now so I can handle it ASAP. I've read a few threads where people have recommended treating new fahakas for parasites to avoid future problems. I was just wondering what those f...
