It isn't close to 5"... It's a bit less than 3" and about 5 months old (which is my guess since he was TINY when I got him in January).

Well I ended up getting a great deal on a 46g bowfront. Beautiful tank. So my plans have changed. Originally I was going for a 55g tank with 2 GSPs. Thanks for the input everyone. I think the interactive personality of my late GSP is what I loved the most. I think I'm going to go ahead and get a couple of GSPs for my 55g.
