Re: Fahaka activity and warmer temperatures.
Mine is always more active in the summer months, and it's almost definitely from the temperature. I have to up the number of feedings accordingly.

Re: strange puffer
Synodontis catfish can squeak too. They're called "squeaker catfishes" or "Talking cats" but the latter name relates to a lot of fish. Synodontis though belong to the family mochokidae and I kept some of these, and when they squabbled at night, you could hear it!

Re: Strange Fahaka behaviour
Hi all. I picked up a 2cm long Fahaka puffer today. It's in a 30g tank at the moment - any larger and it would not be able to find food to eat. When i bought my tank for my fahaka (150g 5x2x2) before i put the fahaka in it, I had a pair of rams in there. They could find a single bloodworm at the op...

Re: Tell me about those Fahakas
I wonder if putting a mirror in the fish tank will cause the puffer to be distracted from other tankmates. Has anyone tried this? I can say without doubt my fahaka would destroy a mirror if it were put in the tank with him. I worry about the tank glass sometimes when he catches his reflection in th...

Re: Tell me about those Fahakas
I'f you're going to consider a fahaka, then be prepared to have a tank dedicated to it. Not everyone is able to keep tankmates with them.
I keep mine in a 5x2x2, and even as a juvenile I would have wanted a tank that size for him. They don't stay small for long.

Don't add any salt directly to the tank, mix it in a bucket first.

Re: 4 Puffers Dead
I suppose its more of a "people keeping this species have found it does best long term if kept in freshwater only, so it is recommended to be kept in a 100% freshwater environment". Better? i still think there is some element of misunderstanding here. I keep my fahaka in freshwater. I wou...
