Well, those things are quite common in my home country (in any asian country actually).
Fishes are treated badly in pet store (kinda like walmart in US), trapped in a jar for a winning prize.

This is one of the article that I found, it is quite out of topic from what we are discussing here but it does mention about puffing reduces lifespan.

Hi, I am not an expert when it comes to puffer, but puffing reduces lifespan of a puffer according to some article/book that I read ( I will try to find it).
