Re: Looking to get a slightly larger FW friend...

I got my trio through Jeff Michaels at AquaticClarity dot com.

Wes at Rare Fish can also get them.

And WetSpot has had them.

Re: Looking to get a slightly larger FW friend...

Schoutedeni can nip plants. Mine aren't tearing apart the tank or anything like that, but if you have some special plants, they could get nipped.

Re: Feeding on vacation (DPs)

Another thing to be concerned with is water quality over that 2 weeks. If there are snails in the tank that aren't completely consumed by the puffers and are just nipped and killed, the rest of the snail's body will rot inside the shell. Over a 2 week time period with many larger snails? It wouldn't...

Also, my salivators never had to have their teeth trimmed. Maybe with your better diet, the irrubescos won't need trimming.

Oh, I hope you can get this worked out! To ship from Canada to the U.S., she will have to send them to a transhipper who is able to import the fish, and then they can ship the fish to you.

Re: Looking to get a slightly larger FW friend...

I think they are very interactive with people. They are very curious and active during the day. I started three young ones together and have had no troubles among them so far. A few other people tried 2 together and reported that they were aggressive with each other, so I'm not sure if starting them...

Re: Tetraodon Schoutedeni

You can contact Wesley Wong of Rare Fish and get on his list.

Jeff Michaels of AquaticClarity (dot) com can get one for you. You won't see them on his stock list, but if you email him, he will order them in.

And you can watch Wetspot's stock list or keep calling them for availability.

Good luck!

Re: Looking to get a slightly larger FW friend...

T. schoutedeni are very personable. My trio constantly tries to get my attention.....they beg, bob around, follow my actions in front of the tank. Curious little buggers.

Re: South American Puffer Not Eating Well

I have one that tends to go off by himself more often than the others. On the flip side, he is the one that is the most interactive with me.

Re: Maturation changes in tetraodon schoutedeni

How many times a week do you have to do water changes with your schoutedeni in the 40g and what's the filtration like on your setup? That is awesome that they all get along well with those species. I have a soft spot for corys and plecos, so awesome that you can keep them together like that! Sounds...

Re: New to south american puffers.

It's a little small for 3 SAPs. I have found they do much better with longer tanks. You might want to add more current to your tank for them. They are very active puffers.

Freeze-dried krill should be avoided, but frozen krill should be fine.

Re: How much is too much? Feeding Q

My schouti's are a little more plump than yours....more like that first video you listed of someone else's on Youtube. I feed every day with one fasting day, so you might try that instead of the every other day feeding?

I've got three, and I hope I have both sexes. Hopefully down the road, I'll see breeding behavior, too.

Re: Maturation changes in tetraodon schoutedeni

I have both species, and the SAPs are definitely busier than the schoutedeni. My SAPs are in a 110 gallon tank along with Choprae danio, Gossei cories, Super Red plecos, and some white clouds. My schoutedeni are in a 40 gallon tank that also has Sterbai cories, a pleco, and white clouds in residence...
