Marine Velvet?

Basically I had a toby that was wild caught for 8 months, 2 months in a 7 gallon tank when he was tiny, 5 when he was in my 20 and 1 or two in a 7 gallon cube that he was originally in. They only get about the size of a percula clown... I moved him from his 20 because he starting eating my zoanthids...

Re: Green Spotted Puffer

I found that way the hard way. Found my little toby lifeless on the floor, flushed him and had to go to work :( I like the mangrove idea, I think I could screen the back with egg crate(let the mangroves grow through) and the front with a removable screen. Think that's a good idea, maybe I'm better o...

Re: Emergency possible TTX poisoning Help Required!!!!!

Your fine,
and tasting the water can work plus following the salts directions.

I once ingested a small amount of palyotoxin,
got some under my fingernails from handeling them and bit that nail(I almost never bite my nails)
Worst stomach ace ever,
a few pain pills had to be taken,
next day I was fine.

Re: Green Spotted Puffer

Sorry.
I was running off and hastily finished the post.
I was thinking about doing a mangrove biotope with macro algae that's all sunlit.
Provided that the puffer doesn't eat it,
my toby loved macro.

Re: Green Spotted Puffer

Hmm. I'll keep an eye out for a cheap 40 gallon that I can resilicone, since I can toss a tank together pretty cheaply since I don't need a skimmer or much lighting. Can I do plants with them ? I've thought about doing a tube of T5HO over the tank for some low light plants. I'm 16 so I'm trying to k...

Green Spotted Puffer

So my awesome Toby jumped, I can't believe it :( After going to the LFS to get a Tomato clown for my 20 gallon reef, I saw three grape sized GSPs. I did read the specie on the pufferpedia, but would like to ask some questions. Do they really get 5 inches long ? Can they be kept full marine ? Or is b...

Re: White spots,only on fins.

Yes it's made my day :) Never have to worry about that again ever. Okay now what could be injuring his fins ? I don't think a dime sized damsel could do it, my blenny wouldn't must be the Coral Banded Shrimp or tiny(1.5 inch) somewhat rare non photosenthic anemone(he nver goes near it). The shrimp h...

White spots,only on fins.

I see white spots on my Puffer's Fins, like ich but it's no way that it's ick. They don't look like cysts,I haven't added a fish in a month or so. I do use natural SW so maybe I introduced something Params and Information Water : Perfect,It's a reef and my coral is thriving(Nothing could be wrong in...

Re: Mixing Toby and Blue spot puffers.....yes or no?

Maybe you could do a pair of tobies ?
I've seen them in the wild as pairs,
really tempting to get a pair but they almost always have parasites

Watermelon?

Um I was thinking since my puffer would eat anything and since I had some water melon,
it's mostly water and he likes macro I'd try a tiny piece.
So I tried a tiny piece(pea sized) and he went nut over it.
It's not like I'm going to feed it to him again, but is there any thoughts on that ?

Re: what equipment is needed for a marine tank?

Why not the display? Hmm,I think the sand might now work, doesn't seem stable enough like if you agitate it you could have problems. I just wouldn't invest in sand as biological filtration. You could always buy base(cheaper dead dry LR) and seed it with a pound of choice LR You'd have to add somethi...

Re: what equipment is needed for a marine tank?

You really don't need to spend the dough on LR. Buy 25% LR and the rest can be dead dry base, it may take time for it to color up and become live but it will be much cheaper. By law in Hawaii I can't harvest LR so I took Coraline scrapings,LS from a reef and 8 months later it's turning out pretty ni...

Re: Pipe Dreaming

I have a grand saved for a 120 setup, but have to wait for the house to sell first :(
Could be months, could be a year, and I'm constantly teased with black tangs, and all those other sweet tangs I see swimming around.
