I got some olive nerites a few weeks ago from Wilma and the puffs don't seem to care that they are in there anymore. Olive nerites have a sort of trapdoor that protects them from the puffers, unless of course the puffers chomp them. The first few days, the snails stayed pretty much in their shells b...

My 3 puffs are Larry, Curly & Moe. Larry is the leader of the pack and is always the first one to the food. Curly has a little curly line right by his eyes and he's the second one to the food. Moe is the dumb one of the three, he's normally a few minutes behind when it's feeding time. The other ...

If you are getting 4 figure 8's you need a lot more decor to break up the lines of sight. More plants, more ornaments or both would work. IMO, I think that figure 8's and dwarf puffers enjoy heavily planted tanks (jungle-like) where they have to continuosly explore to see whats on the other side. Ju...

When I had my figure 8's in the 26 gallon they always looked bored. After I got the 38 I put a small bubble wall in and now they are always 'riding' on the bubbles. They seem to enjoy it but I don't turn it on too often because it takes out the c02 that I need for my plants.

I have bb gobies with figure 8's and they don't bother each other. When I first got the figure 8's though, one of my bb gobies was mysteriously bitten in half. They must have decided that bb gobies don't taste too good because they leave them alone now.

DP's for 26 gallon

My friend is buying the 26 gallon from me and is interested in puffers but would also like some color since she has two young children. I thought that maybe she could get a few dwarf puffers and some compatible community fish to give the tank some color. Are there any community fish that are compati...

I'm in the US so I can't help you out but if you can find some mysis shrimp at a lfs they would work too. Also, check the grocery store. I bought some frozen mussels for $3 for a bag of about 100 and I just plop one in the tank and the puffs go crazy. If you crack it open just a bit the puffs will u...

RTR, what plants did you have in your brackish tank??? I need to get some more plants but don't know what will be ok in brackish, other than the dwarf sag, anubias and anacharis that I have now. I need some sort of sword plant for a background plant. I also need to get some new lights, I just got so...

Yeah, but I don't like the aragonite so this stuff would be better than regular gravel or flourite right?

Eco-Complete cichlid???

Anyone heard of it, or tried it??? The aragonite that I have now is a pain to keep clean and the only reason I have it is to buffer the water. Drs Foster & Smith have this stuff that is good for the plants and will also buffer the water. Any thoughts on it??

Some sort of algea???

I've got some sort of algae growing in my tank and its spreading pretty fast. The back wall is covered with green algae. Here's a pic. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c257/MOsborne05/algae1.jpg Also, the plants are covered in something that looks like brown dust. Here's a pic of that. http://i29.p...

When you feed mussels, do you boil them first or just thaw them and plop them in? My figure 8's are too little right now for most foods, and the snails that I have are too big so I wanted something hard for them. I got a bunch of small nuisance snails from the lfs and they just sucked the meat out o...

It's freshwater right now because that's what they were in at the lfs. I do plan on making it brackish in a couple weeks and I picked plants that could withstand low brackish water, sg .1005. I got them from http://www.aquariumplant.com and they had different sections for brackish, low-light, etc. H...

RTR, what should I feed my puffers now though, for crunch value?? They are only about an inch long right now. I put about 8 small nuisance snails into the tank and they kind of picked at them, but didn't eat any, at least they didn't break the shell. They may have sucked the meat out of a couple of ...
