Re: Decor for DP?

In your first pic you had round flat disks. Are they still in the tank? I was thinking maybe putting a couple of those in my tank might help keep feeding time a bit cleaner? What do you think?

Re: Stuck on the bottom

Puffers are like cats; pretty inactive for about 15 hrs a day, then they zoom everywhere for the remaining time. Mine has taken to curling up inside a rock with his fins tucked in and tail not moving for hours at a time. He just has his little head poking out with the current flowing past him. Then,...

Re: Compatibility - GPS and Foxface Rabbitfish

Sounds like they may work if the puffer's not too aggressive & thetank is large enough & well decorated. Some can't go with any fish. Careful with the Foxface, they have a poisonous spine that packs quite a whallop! Do you think the foxface would have a problem stinging the puffer? What I'v...

Re: Salinity for GSP?

You should always mix the water and leave it mixing for a few hours before you add it into the tank - because it changes salinity and pH heaps as it mixes. What probably happened is the salt hadn't dissolved fully when you first tested. Also, it's best to increase the salinity slowly (1.002/week) be...

Re: spotted green puffers vs corals?

My puffers always take a bite out of new things in the tank, so I try to rearrange things when they first go in or feed them when they go in. They don't actually bother the corals once they've taken a bite.

Re: puffer pacing, even with lots of decor

It your supermarket sells live mussels and clams, why not buy a few and store them in your SW tank until you want to feed them. They'll survive quite happily for a few days, it usually takes a month or so for the heat to get to them. Bacteria is no different to what from what they are frozen in. My ...

Re: Petting Puffers - questions

I don't think they have very many feeling nerves in the belly. I can do the same for my puffers (lift them from underneath) but I know they do feel it because they'll actually roll to the side so I can pet their bellies.

Re: puffer pacing, even with lots of decor

Sometimes they just do that. Mine did that until I moved them into my big tank, then they stopped. 32G is pretty small for 3 puffers, even small ones, so I'd consider moving them into a bigger home if you want to keep them together and then they'll probably be fine. They look pretty happy, but if th...

Re: ** Touching your Puffer Fish ** Poll+Discussion :)

I touch them on a daily basis - they come up for head pats. They will also occasionally roll on their sides so I can touch their tummies. I only do it with clean hands. Right now I'm training them not to bite because my biggest puff drew blood the other day.

Compatibility - GPS and Foxface Rabbitfish

Will 2 GSPs and a foxface be okay together for a few months? The puffers are about 2.5 inches and live in a marine tank, they don't worry the damsel or each other and are completely not aggressive right now, but will be moving in about 6 months to their own tank. Can you see any major issues?

Re: GSP colouring after anemone battle

I didn't realise that; everything I've read says that they're not poisonious to fish, that they just may irritate them.

GSP colouring after anemone battle

Overnight my BTA anemone moved into Big Puffs (GSP) cave. I guess he must have got stung by it; one side of his belly has gone streaky and black, and his green has faded lots. Even his black spots are looking faded. He seems to be swimming as normal, and eating, but he is sitting unusually still (no...

Re: NORMAL?

Mine do that too. I think they do it more when they''re comfortable that they're not going to be eaten and have good hidey holes. Make sure you had a lid in case they decide to go flying.

Re: Healthy?

Some say they are and some say they aren't. I think the general consensus is that they are not schooling fish.
