Re: SAP not eating & not active

Well, at this point the shell has not moved it seems that its lodged with just the tip protruding out. The fish is laying down all the time and when it does get up it can barley swim running into everything. Hasn't really eaten at all this week. I thought if I could press the tip with tweezers to br...

Re: SAP not eating & not active

Well, this morning the shell is no further out and he is now laying down most of the time.

Would putting him to sleep and trying to break the shell be something I should try?

Re: SAP not eating & not active

I have added epsom salt.

However I have confirmed that it is a snail shell. I can now see the tip of where the shell comes to a point. Is this a problem or will it come out?

Re: SAP not eating & not active

I feed them a combination of snails and freeze dried shrimp. Ive had trouble getting them to eat anything else. I have had them for 13months.

I just remembered that he did start acting this way the day after I placed some snails in. Maybe he swallowed one without breaking the shell.

Re: SAP not eating & not active

Well only one of them is acting funny. Is it okay to add the epsom to the tank with both of them in it or do I need to move the one? Any chance it could be internal parasites?

Also today his eyes look sunken in. Either that or his head is swelled up.

SAP not eating & not active

On saturday I moved my two sap's into a bigger tank. The tank has been setup for over two years and the water parameters where identical to their previous tank. On tuesday one of my puffers started acting funny, not active at all, however he did eat some. Then today he is not active and not eating. ...

Re: Finquel Dosage Question

Well, I used .04grams and the bigger puffer did not become completely sedated but was enough to turn him over and clip his teeth. But the smaller one stayed way to active and when I tried to flip him over he would just turn right back over. I left him in for 15mins, and then moved him to the recover...

Re: Finquel Dosage Question

Thanks for the info.

So a liter would be around 4.25 cups of water with 0.03grams - 0.05grams right?

Finquel Dosage Question

I have two different size SAP's that need their teeth trimmed. I have searched the forum and read all I could find. The range I have found is 50mg to 85mg per gallon. Does anyone who has done this before know what the best and safest dose would be? Also I have a 1" and a 2.5" fish should t...

Re: Puffer compatiblity?

Thanks for the input. I checked out the MBU puffers but they seem like they get very large. I am trying to create a nice community setup with a cool mix of fish. So I don't really want a single fish that dominates the tank with its massive size. Myaj I haven't quiet come to a final decision on what ...

Puffer compatiblity?

I am in the process of having a custom tank made and I would really like to be able to put in a fresh water puffer. I have been reading the site and have looked at most of the different ones available. It seems like the SAPs might be something that would work in a community tank. But I would really ...
