Re: Fahaka's substate problem :D

It is strange behaviour in the video, I see my own fahaka charging to fight with her own reflection in the side panel from time to time. Interestingly, my puffer laid eggs a few times and the one time I witnessed it I'm pretty sure she was spawning with her own reflection in the bottom panel of the ...

Click the pic to see the vid.

Apologies for the camerawork, hope you like the fish.
I've had her just under 2 years, she's 10-12 inches.

Re: Fahaka laid eggs !

WOW! That's great! It must have been amazing to see. http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=151 It was pretty amazing alright, you know the more I think about it the more I think she may have been spawning with her reflection in the tank bottom as I read that the male & female clas...

Fahaka laid eggs !

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z115/2pocie/puffer.jpg This is a (bad) pic of my Fahaka, she's currently around 9 or 10 inches. I've had her since November last year. Anyhow, last night I was watching her & she had cleared a big pit in the sand in the centre of the tank. She was sitting on t...

Nick wrote:If by friendly, you mean, interactive, yes, very. You just have to accept that the primary way a a fish, having no hands, interacts with it's environment is by biting stuff, and that your fahaka will be able to remove fingers by pure curiosity some day.
Very well put!

Re: Mixing T. Palembangensis w/ RedTail Catfish and Polypterus

Palembangs stay small so he wouldn't actually eat the other fish. He would bite them though for sure - I kept a palembang with a Mystus Leucophasis & he bit a lump out of him. Also tried him with an African cichlid & again he ate half his tail. I really think the bigger risk is the RTC swall...

Re: I got bit by my fahaka.

Such a horrible feeling being bitten by fish... I have some scars on my hands from catching pike over the years. Whenever I put my arm in my cichlid tank they start nibbling & plucking the hairs, occasionally one will latch onto a finger & shake his head. They've no teeth to speak of but it ...

Re: Mixing T. Palembangensis w/ RedTail Catfish and Polypterus

I would think the Palembang would be an easy mouthful for the RTC..

They had a stunning 2 foot Arowana in my local LFS, sharing a tank with an equally stunning 2 foot RTC..

Recently they found the stunning Arowana sticking out of the stunning RTC's mouth ;)

I wouldn't trust them at all.....

Re: Are Fahaka Puffers very friendly?

Like the people above, I have found my fahaka fairly unpredictable. He's pretty big at about 8 inches, he begs like a puppy whenever I am in the room. When I open the lid he's up to the top sticking his nose out of the water straight away. He lets me stroke him & makes no effort to bite etc. Non...

Re: How much to feed 7 inch Fahaka?

Hmm. The tank has a hood but that is a good point..
With a good jump he could probably flip open the hatch.

I need to secure it to prevent any young curious fingers from getting chomped on too…

Re: How much to feed 7 inch Fahaka?

i agree with Yunachin; they will eat themselves to death. I feed mine a variety of things; clams, muscles, shrimp bloodworms and live crayfish. I found that when I mix up the food his colors are better. It's usually feed one thing a day though. A small clam or 50-60 count shrimp or a good sized chu...
