Re: Advice on Setting Up Tank For New Pea Puffers
The little one with the bent spine is doing well. He/She has been nicknamed "Twisty." He eats well, and is actually the largest and most colourful of the five. The bent spine doesn't seem to keep him from swimming normally. I was scared at first he might not make it, but he seems to be as ...

Re: Advice on Setting Up Tank For New Pea Puffers
Hi All.., Thanks for the insightful comments and suggestions:) I found a hood for the 20 Gallon today, so I'm relieved that I'll be able to move the Puffers directly there once the QT period is over. I didn't want to have an open-topped tank for my daughter because there is so much evaporation, and ...

Re: Advice on Setting Up Tank For New Pea Puffers
Hello again:) Thanks for the comments and advice. I am an experienced fishkeeper and used cycled material in the filter as well as water from my other tanks. I also have the help of my boyfriend who is an admin at Tropical Fish Hobbyist. He has owned puffers before but they were of a different type....

Advice on Setting Up Tank For New Pea Puffers
Hello.., More than a year ago, I came on this forum because my daughter wanted puffers for her new aquarium. I read up a little on them and asked for advice here, but after awhile decided she should try something easier first. Even though it has been over a year, there is still no doubt in her mind ...

Re: Puffers for Small Aquaria??
Hello, and thanks again... No, I would never use fish to actually cycle a tank, but I would use the hardier ones to keep a cycle going along with the use of established media. I am so glad this practice seems to be dying out to some extent. When I was a kid and had my first aquarium, it was common p...

Re: Puffers for Small Aquaria??
Hello... Thanks for all your replies!!! As far as the cycling goes, we should be OK because I have other tanks and can use media from them to get them started. As far as the size goes, I think I'll probably go with the 15.., it isn't too much larger. I will also look up the figure 8, but wondering i...

Puffers for Small Aquaria??
Hello.., I am going to get my daughter an aquarium for Christmas, and she really wants to have puffers. She says she wouldn't mind keeping it as a species-only tank. The aquarium will be small-only 10 or 15 gallons, and I was wondering if it would be fair or wise to keep two or three dwarf puffers i...
