Re: Internal Filter Flow and Effects on Puffers

I've edited my original post because I don't think I composed it right to get my question across as I had intended. See original post that has now been edited.

Internal Filter Flow Affecting Fish

Hey Everyone, I read something yesterday about filter output being too strong for some fish and fish dying as a result. So now I'm looking at all of my tanks and wondering if the output is too strong. And while none of my puffers are dying ... that doesn't mean they like a strong output, and that it...

Re: Something Very Wrong with Abei

The vets around here? I highly doubt they would know what to do. And aside from that, we're still in a sort of lockdown. If I take my dog to the vet, I literally have to give my dog to the assistant, remain outside and then wait for them to do whatever. I can't see them even knowing how to deal with...

Re: Something Very Wrong with Abei

Yes, I've had her since she was tiny. It's really sad because I look into her eyes and she looks at me in mine. I haven't seen her swim, but the way she's laying on her side worries me, she's not all the way over, but as you can (hopefully) see in the photo, she is leaning over some. The last time I...

Something Very Wrong with Abei

I'm really feeling quite sad because clearly there is something very wrong with my Abei puffer. I hadn't noticed because she likes to hide behind a big terra cotta plate I have in the tank and I normally drop her food behind it and I see her coming for it. Now, I don't know this is a female Abei, bu...

Re: New Puffer

I think I was just being nervous, because he appears fine now. He's up and swimming, he actually took food last night and he seems fine. I just think it was the stress of being in a different place, in new surroundings. But he is definitely better off, he was in the tank with another Leiurus and he ...

New Puffer

Okay, well I have not been active on this forum for a very long time. I hadn't bought any new puffers in a long time and all of my others are doing fine. Then about 3 weeks ago my Turgidus passed away, I am not sure why. He was fine in the morning and by afternoon he was dead. I was really upset, as...

Re: Photo ID

That has has happened to me so many times. I've ordered puffers and ended up with Abei's, when I already had one. I have ordered what were supposed to a Fangs and ended up with a Turgidus, which I already had. So when I seen this fish recently for sale, I really wanted it because I've yet to own a F...

Re: Photo ID

Thanks Corvus, actually the photo was supposed to be a Cochinchinensis, but I wasn't sure. I have bought more than one puffer that's been sold as one thing and when I get it, find out it's something quite different (usually an Abei or Turgidus). However, after having better photos sent to me, it tur...

Re: Poisoned Tank

Well maybe you should consider what was going to happen to them if I hadn't taken them! (And this is why I rarely post on this forum, because it's mostly negative comments, not that I actually saved 2 puffers from certain death ... but hey, whatever).

Re: Poisoned Tank

I just wanted to give an update on my previously "poisoned tank". After doing a number of water changes and putting in two lots of the Poly Filter (which removes chemicals, etc. from the tank), my tank appears to be back to how it was before I ruined it and killed off two puffers. I was gi...

Re: Success Keeping Abei Puffer with Others?

Yeah, I think you're right. I was only curious if anyone had actually been successful. He was keen after the shrimp I put in and was really looking high and low for anything that moved. He's awfully cute though. It's weird my older Abei is so big and this new one is so small, you almost forget that'...

Success Keeping Abei Puffer with Others?

Has anyone had any success keeping their Abei puffer with any other living thing? Years ago I had an Abei, and I put a Bristlenose plec in with him to keep the tank clean and the puffer killed the plec (didn't eat it, just killed it). I have another Abei, and had him for many years and though he see...

Re: Poisoned Tank

No offense, but I'm not going to remove everything and clean the tank with bleach. Thing is, right now I've got a large population of cherry shrimp in the tank, and I also have plants that have taken me months to grow on. So I'd be throwing all of that out, and I just can't see doing that. I think w...
