Man are you guys lucky! I wish mine would start eating the algae! Their tank is overrun with diatoms! Even 3 nerites can't keep up with it, lol.

Oh crap! Glad your fishies are ok. Is Naboo stealing your bettas bed? lol I did a similar thing once... I was completely draining a tank, and I forgot that the heater was still plugged in... started smelling something melting.... realized my heater was completely ruined.... luckily there was no wate...

The bacteria doesn't live in the water, but on surfaces like the gravel and filter media. Just try not to agitate the substrate too much with your daily changes and you should be fine.

I'd definitely get an ammonia test. Fish often hover towards the top when there's ammonia present. If there's any ammonia showing you'll have to do waterchanges daily.
