Starry puffer video

I posted a video of my starry puffer on my blog, if anyone's interested. It's in 60 fps HD, too! (having fun with my new Zi8...!). Whatcha think?

Re: Tank Crashed and puffers attack ENTIRE TANK!!!!!

As you learned, GSPs are particularly aggressive - can't keep anything with them, IME! DSBs are not time bombs if planned for properly. My 5-6" DSB is several years old, and it literally 'crawls' it's so alive with worms and pods. Coupled with strong water motion, quality live rock (I use Flori...

Re: @RTR - MBU tank size requirement.

Sounds neat - have any pics, or care to do a guest writeup/post on our blog (blog.captive-aquatics.com) about them? :)

Re: @RTR - MBU tank size requirement.

Saltwater aquariums easier to handle the waste in that freshwater aquariums past a certain bioload point, it seems. Saltwater aquariums form an ecosystem, whereas a freshwater aquarium with a big messy fish is a nitrate nightmare! A Deep sand bed, quality live rock with lots of oysters and other biv...

Re: @RTR - MBU tank size requirement.

I know! It's at the point where my map puffer (~8", 6" smaller than my gf's mbu) is scary to feed - he'll jump halfway out of the water like jaws! We have sealed wooden floors though, so nothing a towel can't handle.

Here's hoping I keep my fingertips...

Re: @RTR - MBU tank size requirement.

In my 2 years of experience with both T. mappa and T. mbu, the mbu is a great deal more active. The mbu swims around virtually all day, playing in the several currents (canister filter return, two large hydor prop pumps) paying attention and interacting with us (both tanks are in the living room), e...

Re: Overfeeding Puffers

Anecdotally, the saltwater puffers I've seen in the wild are usually FAT. Like, fatter than mine are even when I feed them too much! The A. mappa's I've seen in the wild have stomachs as big again as their body, and the A. meleagris in Hawaii are often like a football! Different species have differe...

Re: wow beautiful puffer

I have one, even more brightly colored that that guy. He's incredibly personable and obnoxious, and not shy at all. In fact, he likes to kill tank mates... :( Definitely my favorite fish and fish species, though!

Re: Don't do this

As Neale pointed out, I perhaps overstated with saying tea tree oils are "useless", but when used as medications for primary infections in fish these oils are virtually useless. Antibiotics are much more effective! If you fear a potential infection, use Seachem's StressGuard, which seems t...

Melafix is useless.

It's tough to get puffers to get along!

Re: Porc compatability

I had a porc+maroon clownfish for almost 5 years together, no problems. However, I don't recommend keeping anemones in anything but species tanks.
