Re: Cycling With Bio-Spira

I've got an existing Emerpor filter running, and plan to use it with a new/different tank. Since it'll include a biowheel and fliter catridge thats already in use...will this cut down my cylcing time? If so by how much. Is this what is considered existing media? Or am I better off going with a Bio-S...

Re: Setting Up Moonlight For My Tank

I think I'll go with the link lights, they should be plenty for my tank. My last decesion is to either get the white or blue moon lights. Any preference? Blue sounds great looking, but it could also look unatural as moon light is white. If anyone has example of both I'd love to see them. Post any pi...

Re: Setting Up Moonlight For My Tank

Thanks for the suggestions. The hood is sweeeet, but $300 is a bit much for lighting in my opinion. I'll have to try one of the kits. So does anyone recommend putting the light under the hood, over the submersible one that just suction cup to the glass? Just trying to picture the lighting angles in ...

Setting Up Moonlight For My Tank

I tried to find any info online about setting up Moonlighting for my tank, but couldn't find much. Its only a 36 inch long tank and I'm not sure what size fixture I'd even need. Currently I have a standard cover and light, if I get one of the moonlight kits how do you set one up? Does it replace you...

Re: Use a conditioner for Chlorine and Heavy Metals?

I appreciate all the responses. As I said my tank upstairs is fine, no problems for nearly a year now...so I really thought my towns tap waters chem levels were low enough to not need a conditioner. But the newer tank is having problems, so maybe its time. I was also hesitant as I've read Stress Coa...

Use a conditioner for Chlorine and Heavy Metals?

Does anyone religiously use conditioner for their tap water? I have two brackish tanks now. A 26 Gal with my Figure 8, 2 K. Gobies, 3 Sailfin Mollies and 3 large Nerite Snails this tank has been going for almost a year with no problems. Now my 2nd 30 gallon has only been up for about 2 1/2 months. I...

My Figure 8 with a Spotted Climbing Perch?

Currently my Figure 8 is a 26 gallon with a couple knight gobies, mollies and flagfish. But I'm cyling a new 30 gallon and migrating everyone but Puff into the new tank as he likes to nipp at the gobies and mollies. I've debated added a 2nd Figure 8...but I had another thought. I've read that the Sp...

Re: F8 fin nipping :(

Yeah my figure 8 is king of the fin nippers. Tears up every other fish in the tank. I think the "break the line of sight" thing is BS. I tried it to, didn't do anything...if its in their nature to nip; no plant or rock is going to change that. He's staying in my current 26 gal and I'm gett...

Re: D: really mean F8?

If you go with the bigger tank and lots of plants, rocks, etc. you might be ok. Puffers personalities really vary, yours could be a bully. Age/size plays a part in that as well. If the tankmates are at least the size of your puffer they won't be in danger of being killed. But they still might get to...

Re: 2 Figure 8's in one tank?

I appreciate all the responses. I guess I'll make a decesion shortly. Either get a 26 or 30 gallon in the home theater for 2 little puffs or just keep my current guy in the 15 gal on my bookshelf. Either way it should work out. I should be able to add a few more brackish fish to the 30 gallon once t...

Re: 2 Figure 8's in one tank?

Wait until they reach adulthood...your Molly could be in trouble like mine having their fins ripped apart; depending on their personalities. And I've never seen a 6 inch Figure 8 (you thinking GSP?)...4 inches is the biggest I've seen, but most don't grow bigger than 3. So I was able to find another...

Re: 2 Figure 8's in one tank?

Hmmm so you are saying 25 gallons for 2. All I have room for is the 15 gallon...so I guess its just the one. I might still try having two in the tank. Just put a large piece of drifwood and some taller plants in middle to create a little tank seperation. Perhaps that will ease any territorial agress...

2 Figure 8's in one tank?

I've recentally had trouble with my Figure 8 Puff in my 30 gal. community tank. For a while he just bothered my big Goby...but now he's nipped the fins off most of my Mollies and my Flagfish. I can't stand it anymore. While he may look cute...he's a bad little trouble maker. So to remedy this I've d...

Re: Going to try some snails

For the guy with the GSP you're probably right...they get bigger and have much harder teeth than my Figure 8.

For me I think I'll be fine. I only have Figure 8's and they've have been known to chip teeth on MTS and I don't think they'll be able to get through the larger Nerite snail shells either.

Re: Going to try some snails

All Puffers are different. My Figure 8 is about a year old and eats anything; flakes, frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, live ghost shrimp, store bought shrimp and pond snails. Snails do seem to be his favorite though. You should feed them snails around every 2-3 weeks. And I agree that the si...
