Re: Nitrite Spike after water change??
how big is the tank. how long has it been up and running. stress zyme is bunk if youre trying to use it to establish bacteria in your tank. there are only one or two products out there that work for that, and stress zyme isnt one of them. it sounds like your tank is doing a mini-cycle if nothing els...

just wait...your fish will eat better than you do.
dont just read the articles, but check the board as well (use the search feature) about stunting.

Re: Question about GSP black belly
mine gets a gray belly when he eats, but ive notice its when hes "stalking" his prey. he does this mostly for snails and live cherry shrimp. but he will do this when hes looking for leftover goodies in his gravel after i finish feeding him (mysis shrimp, blood worms, etc). he gets really d...

Re: thrashing GSP
if i lean in to look at my gsp he spooks and splashes at the top before hiding behind his rock. he usually tries to squeeze behind the intakes for the hob filters on his tank before realizing hes too big and dashing for the bottom

Re: what is your favorite brand of salt?
so thats pretty reasonable. good things to know. i was just looking for cost effective salt, when my lfs owner suggested the ocean pure to me. he said it was what he used in his sw tanks. i shrugged and gave it a go. so far so good

Re: what is your favorite brand of salt?
i was using the petco brand salt (i dont have a ton of money to burn) and compared to the new salt, it wasnt as good. i had more diatoms, the water didnt seem as clear (i havent changed lights or anything) and i dunno, my gsp sulked a lot more. this new salt seems to really agree with him. it takes ...

what is your favorite brand of salt?
my lfs got me turned onto oceanpure salt by via aqua. it dissolves really fast and just seems to be incredibly clear in the tank. spot has never been more active but relaxed. he is eating like a horse since i made the change. i did a bit of poking around and apparantly reef keepers really like it; i...

Re: Sudden Death of GSP
it seems to me that you are not adding an actual dechlorinator of any kind. this may be your fundamental problem. chlorine and chloramine will mean your tank and filter never establish a proper colony of beneficial bacteria. this is why i said you need to do more research. you can help yourself on t...

Re: Sudden Death of GSP
to increase the salinity, you really need marine salt, not aquarium salt. there are minerals in the marine salt that are not present in aquarium salt. did you have any kind of substrate in with the puffer? and how did you cycle the tank? what else were you feeding the puffer besides snails? gsp are ...

Re: lethargic GSP
it can take them a bit to relax. the deworming meds probably didnt help (well, they helped, but i bet the puffer didnt like them). and even once they settle in, they take naps. its the weirdest thing.

Re: green spotted puffers
your question about aggression in a small tank, i had two small gsp in a 29 gallon and i swear, they stressed eachother out just due to proximity because i never really saw too much overt aggression. oddly, the one with the more aggressive tendencies was the one who died. the one i have left has thr...

Re: How aggressive are your GSP
mine nipped me a little going for a snail that was stuck to my finger. i was shaking the snail off and spot made a beeline for my finger and missed the snail. it was weird though. it felt like the tiniest smooch. i think i just got lips. i have seen spot ATTACK the algae scraper as well as my bf. he...

Re: i feel like the best and worst gsp mom
i might look into some blennies or something. i just will keep my eyes open for signs of stress or aggression. this goes both ways. we tried tossing in a feeder fish (a fry from my tanks) and spot just swam over and looked at the other fish like "hello, who are you?" then swam towards me b...
