GSP died...
Sadly, our GSP has passed... I tried everything as far as advice went. I want another GSP but will not purchase another till my tank is at PERFECT parameters. What really kills me is he/she seemed so alive and happy, then (poof) dead.. I do not know what went wrong, I took PP's advice and did water ...

Re: High Nitrite.
Only time will tell. :) I'm taking PP's advice and not gonna change the water for 48 hours after adding BS. Added it on Friday, so either today (sun) or tomorrow I'll do a 50% change and see what happens. I treated for fungus yesterday (Following Ich treatment recommendation), and I'll follow up wit...

Re: High Nitrite.
Good to know about your store but it may have been neglected on the way to the store. I have a wholesaler-friend who was at a warehouse on a hot summer day & they had cases of thousands of bags of B-S sitting out in their warehouse in the heat for weeks. That's why I always write a disclamer wh...

Re: High Nitrite.
Although this is probably too late, do an 80% WC before adding the B-S & add it directly to your filter. Do not change the water again for 48 hours, unless it really doesn't seem to be working. If is isn't, then it was left unrefrigerated for a time, before it got to you. Also, next time nitrit...

Re: High Nitrite.
Wow....$15 is cheap. I paid $29.99 + $19.99 for shipping on a 3oz. package. I don't have a store near me that sells it. Sweet Jeebus, that's highway robbery! :O One thing I noticed today, My GSP (Still unnamed) was doing something odd today. Now and then (only a few times) it seemed to "dart&q...

Re: High Nitrite.
Today's results: Nitrate: 20 ppm Nitrite: 3.0 ppm (yay!) Ph: 7.8 Yes! Nitrite levels are dropping! I took your advice and bought some Bio Spira, hopefully my Bio filter will be good to go soon. Thanks!! :D (Sorry that I'm inadvertently "bumping" this post, just want to show my daily result...

Re: High Nitrite.
Yep, I just used bio spira because I killed my bacteria.. and like said in the previous post if it was handled correctly it still contains live bacteria. I had killed my bacteria through a mishap with my tank and my ammonia had risen up. While now I'm battling nitrites (and soon nitrates)..basicall...

Re: High Nitrite.
Thanks so much for the info guys! It is well appreciated. :D These are my readings after a 50% water change today: Nitrite - 4.5 ppm Nitrate - 30 ppm Ph - 7.8 At first my GSP (still nameless) seemed bothered when I would change the water. Now it seems to welcome it gladly, swimming happily afterward...

Re: High Nitrite.
About two weeks with "Cycle" Meds. should I have used some fish to cycle? I actually set it up for my girlfriend for a birthday gift. So far two fish have fallen. :((I have been so busy researching and medicating and all that). "New tank syndrome" pops into mind :/ it's been abou...

High Nitrite.
My tank is showing high levels of nitrite. I have a "Nitra-Zorb" bag in the water flow of my bio/power filter, treat with anti nitrite/nitrate/ammonia meds (as prescribed), and have aquarium salt (as well as the recommended "dosage" of marine salt for brackish conditions) and do ...
