Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
Thanks, I tried really hard. After looking up another disease I came across Gill Disease, which is what it sounds like he had.

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
Freddy passed away in his sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning
We buried him in a nice garden. Thank you all for your help and I hope everyone who has a sick fish sees him or her recover.

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
He was actually a lot more stressed out in the 30 gal. when this behavior began, and he did a lot of lying down. I wanted to put him in a clean aquarium in case something had contaminated that one. I'm having a really hard time figuring out what's wrong because his symptoms are constantly changing.....

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
I just got a bubble wall, and he is swimming around a lot more but still putting his mouth to the surface. Should I leave the bubble wall running all the time? The package said I needed some kind of indicator to measure something, but I didn't realize until I left the store.

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
I'm sorry you lost your puffer :( He is at the surface at a corner as if he is gasping for air. When he stops moving it is for a shorter time and then five air bubbles come out of his side and he keeps swimming. I foolishly did not know that you are supposed to soak freeze dried food, so I may have ...

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
Ammonia is at 0, and I just put in Bio Spira. He is producing air bubbles and swimming normally, so I'm about to read the article on burping them/what happens when they fill up with air.

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
Freddy became paralyzed a few times today to the point where I thought he was dead. He stops moving and breathing and doesn't respond when I tap on the glass, but eventually he starts swimming again. Is there ANYTHING I can do for him? Is he dying? My boyfriend wanted to put him down when he became ...

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
I switched him to a 10 gal. freshwater with one tap conditioner last night. He ate decently last night and was behaving normally, but today he is lying around and not eating a thing. I wish I could find someone nearby with fish but I'm staying on campus over the summer and most students have gone ho...

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
We're actually vacuuming the gravel right now. He does not have the white stuff on his body, though his coloring is a bit pale. Is it possible that the fungus in the tank is irritating him without making him sick internally?

Re: GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
I think the wisps are more fuzzy than stringy. The fungus from food would make sense, I forgot to mention that a piece of seaweed disintegrated in his tank, and I probably couldn't get all of it out. He was just swimming around twitching for a couple minutes as if he had an itch he couldn't shake, b...

GSP hiding, too skinny, white wisps in tank... please help!
1. pH: 7 Ammonia: have nothing to test it but used AmmoLock Nitrite: .5 Nitrates: 0 salinity: we are soaking a new hydrometer (salinity is likely low) 2. It is a 30 gal. tank and Freddy (GSP) is the only inhabitant. 3. We have fed him bloodworms, krill, brine shrimp cubes, Tropical Fish Medley, crab...

Re: Adopted a GSP in need, but it's my first. Please help!
Yeah I was very upset to find out that this student got approved to have live fish in pathetic little bowls at the dance. The poor guy was riled up from the loud music for a while when I got him back. I'll buy a heater, bigger tank, and new food today. I'm replacing some of the water with new water ...

Re: Adopted a GSP in need, but it's my first. Please help!
Sadly, people were just running off with the GSPs, so it might be hard to track them down. They wanted to hand them out at the end of the dance, but when I saw people grabbing bowls, I took Freddy before someone else did. I'll talk to the student who bought the fish to see if she knows anything. Tha...

Adopted a GSP in need, but it's my first. Please help!
I took a GSP home from a dance Friday night; they had the fish in individual glass bowls, a terrible thing to do to them. I wasn't expecting there to be live fish there, nor was I familiar with GSPs before Friday. I got the feeling that the other people who took fish home will probably be careless w...
