Re: Aerator in fig 8 tank?

I have a bubble wand in my GSP tank, and he loves it. He swims down into the bubbles, and back up (and then does this over and over). I also have a bubble disc in my F8 tank..he doens't like it as much as the GSP, but he doesn't mind it. As stated in previous posts, be ready to clean. I have lids ov...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Thank you so much for jumping in here. I have good news, last night during feeding he ate for the first time since Thursday evening, and his jaw movement is getting better. They haven't had dinner tonight yet, but I'm hoping the same will happen. I truly appreciate everyone's thoughts and suggestions.

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Just a quick update, he's still hanging in there. I think I see more jaw movement in him this morning. I don't think it's just wishful thinking I'm seeing. We'll see how the day goes! I still wish I knew what was wrong with him, but whether it was injury/dislocation, or whatever it was, maybe it's h...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

I took a video of him so you can see what I mean. His mouth just isn't closing.

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

No, his jaw still seems to be "in line," it's just as if the main position is open wide, and he maybe was able to close it 25% of the way. So, I'm thinking he's still back where he started. I'm thinking maybe it's something along the lines of TMJ in humans? Just thinking of possible ideas....

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Just an update. Someone on another forum had said maybe he got a piece of gravel lodged in his mouth, but that I should anesthetize him before checking this. Well, I managed to just hold him in one spot in the tank with a net to look, and I don't see anything, it doesn't help that his gravel is natu...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Thanks. I really appreciate it. I just hate to see something bad happen to him/her because he/she got scared and ran into the wall (I'm guessing that's what must have happened). Thanks for everyone's help. I've signed up for the other discus forum as well (they block gmail addresses apparently, but ...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Thanks for the advice, however I'm a little afraid to use clove oil just for sedation, just because I know it can kill them. Also, with feeding on a daily basis, I don't think I'd want to knock them out every day to feed them. I tried joining what looked like a discus forum, but they seem to have bl...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

I think my plan is going to be to wait a couple days to see if there's improvement, but if there's not I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm still thinking he has some some sort of injury, and one of the other discus has seemed more scared than usual. I'm not sure if he would realize that his other tan...

Re: Discus Lockjaw?

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. They sometimes get scared when the lights either turn on or someone walks by too fast, they're just nervous fish I think. I'm thinking maybe he ran into a wall or jumped and hit the ceiling of his tank. I noticed the redness and I really don't remember see...

Discus Lockjaw?

I know my discus isn't a puffer, but I've received great help from this forum quite a bit, so I thought I'd put this out here if anyone might have any suggestions. I have 3 discus and have had them for about a year now. One of my discus has developed what looks like lockjaw (jaw stuck open). I've be...

Re: Puffer teeth trimming

I have a GSP that's about 3.5 inches, and a F8 puffer that's about an inch in separate tanks. I got the F8 about 2 months before I got my GSP and have had them a little over a year now. I hear the same thing when I feed my GSP, but not my F8. I was worried when I first heard my GSP eat because I tho...

Re: t''s back! What to do now?

Cyanobacteria is blue-green algae... only know that b/c the lake I live on has it right now due to the flooding... Not sure if that's the same also though.

Re: t''s back! What to do now?

Is this the same as brown algae? The stuff that sticks to the glass, the plants, everything? I have this horribly in one of my brackish tanks. I clean it up and it comes back within days. It's nuts! I haven't found anything that helps, but have heard just cleaning it and eventually it may go away so...

Re: UV Sterilizer

It has a GSP about 2" - 2.5". The reason it's lower is because it was FW at the store and it's still in the process of being raised.
