GSPs are like puppies. They will beg for food long after they are full. You have to feed slowly at first and watch their belly so you get a feel for how much fills them to the right degree. If they are puffed out to the limit and their tummy looks all stretched, they are overfed.

Yeah you don't need to add bacteria at water changes. Just the conditioner. The bacteria can be added (if you are so inclined) into the filter medium, where it will hopefully add to the culture there. But no, a 25% water change of a 20 gallon is what I do and I never add bacteria.

Could be stress related, if he is eating well, give him some time. I know when I bought my puffer her belly was kind of grayish black and after being in my nice tank with yummy food for a month her belly is pure white. Check the pufferpedia too - they might have answers there.

Good for you for recognizing that he needed more space. I would say that the best suggestion is to feed him a variety of foods. Make sure not to overfeed (if the belly is all puffy he is full!). Some GSP can go a day or two with no food, some need to eat every day - get to know your individual puffe...
