Re: Let's share our blunders!
Just last week was doing a water change on Hoover's (my congo) tank. Got a panicked call from a friend trying to do the front brakes on their Acura (I use to be a mechanic). So I jump on the computer while telling them how to do the job (different caliper setup than the usual but nothing hard to do)...

Re: Hopefully an easy science question:
The O.U. refers to the optical units equivalent - this defines what each unit on the scale build into the microscope is equal to at the given power of magnification the microscope is set to. See this link: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~bioslabs/methods/microscopy/measuring.html I this case (from your lin...

New puffer trick
My Solandri, Budda has learned a new trick- spitting water at us when he wants to be fed. It started after we moved (6 tank in one day- worse than moving the rest of the apartment). I was so busy with the new job (takes 120 miles round trip commute each day and often I am sent on overnight trips for...

Re: Moving
Just did a 50 mile move of 6 tanks last month - best way to move the fish and/or liverock- clean coolers- preferably ones with wheels! Waterproof, keep the water at a good temp (was over 90F in Pennsylvania during move- fish's coolers were 75F- lucky fish- truck had no AC), fit larger/multiple fish ...

Re: Congo puffers
I have spoken to a few fish store owners that said the original major exporter in the Congo had passed away a few months back making harder to get fish from that region. A new group is working on setting up export in the region but with the civil war and unrest it is a shaky (IMO insane- that place ...

Re: Anyone else think...
Reputable seller do everything they can to make sure the fish they send you are stressed as little as possible- they don't want to be replacing dead fish or refunding money. UPS on the other hand doesn't give a d@mn if you paid for Saturday delivery, called twice when you didn't get the package by n...

Re: Miurus at LFS!!!
Don't try to keep him with other fish- will wake one morning to a massacre. MIne will eat fish up to his size (3in). Great fish though- has personality. Get one but keep him alone. Have mine in a 29g and is doing fine.

Re: SAP fascinated by gravel vac
Like the moon thing. They do like to play in the current from the HOB and canister filters (outlet are in the same area). Have had smaller fish do the tube luge (danios can be stupid) as well as small snails.

SAP fascinated by gravel vac
My SAPs have a developed a fascination with the gravel vac. Have had them for over 1yr. but until last week they ignored the vac- could clean the gravel and then let it in the tank for the WC and go get other things ready. Now I have to watch the vac - the little buggers swim into it  . Last ...

Re: Don't do this
Has anyone used Biobandage on their puffers? Does say safe on scales fish but could be hard to apply. Have heard of koi keepers using it to close wounds.

Re: Dwarf Puffer watching PC screen :)
Have 2 tanks in the bedroom- both face the TV. So when I am watching TV before bed, so are Bud, Junior and Hoover (2GSP and 1 Congo). Hoover will actually move on top of tubing to lay there and watch the TV.

My 2 GSP thought the fiddler I put in was tasty- torn off the legs and then played fishy football with the body before eating it

Normal to worry, soon you have to resist them begging for food (they are very good beggers- put my cats to shame). Congrats and enjoy your new friends.

Re: Anyone Seen GSP to Full Adult Size?
If my landlord ever sees the 8 tanks I have I'm in trouble. I knowMyaj wrote:He just said "three tanks is okay, but no more than that". He knows about the 75, so he's obviously okay with the size .

Re: Colour of SAP?
Hyper fish- have 4 myself. They can change their color some based on mood. Mine seem to pale when stressed more (also move slower- these are normally very active fish). Don't worry too much if you just got them. They will need time to acclimate to their new home (mine were pale for a few days when f...
