Re: Recommend me a filter for a 55 US gallon tank please
That filter is great but I also like to add a HOB Aquaclear 110, that is easier to access & can be cleaned more often. +1 on the HOB AQ 110! We divide the 110 gallon aquarium size rating by 4 for salt water. We have two on a 46 Gallon saltwater Quarantine tank with three messy 3.5" striped...

Re: Does my dwarf puffer have ick?
I don't see spots either. If the spots move hour to hour or come and go they may be bubbles. Is the fish seeming distressed? If not it may be nothing. Major Ich symptom is flashing to scratch where the parasites cause irritation.

Re: DIY hoods.
Six 54 watt t5 HO 4 10k, 2 actinic would be sufficient light. The light will be brightest in the middle, so placement of corals should take this into consideration. There will be a lot of heat, so you may want put 12v muffin fans and air intakes vent on the back of your hood, or leave the back open ...

Re: DIY hoods.
You could use several coats of marine grade polyurethane varnish on the wood. A thin acrylic, countertop laminate, or even glass on the inside would provide better protection, however. T5 says the bulb is 5/8 inch. I believe "s" indicates 10k or sun spectrum. Are these 45.75 inch 28 Watt o...

Re: DIY hoods.
I made a hood from 1/4 inch black acrylic and installed a ballast and VHO lights. It was on an acrylic tank so it hinged on acrylic hinges (2,on the tank, 1 on the hood) with a peg running through. You can purchase a VHO ballast online, along with wired mounting sockets for the bulbs.

Re: Porcupine Puffer Compatibility with Another Puffer?
I have seen porcs with snowflakes with no issues. Tight cover for both, is recommended. I agree. There are quite a number of accounts where this combination works. The only problem is the individual nature of porcs, their tendency to try anything, and their curious and bold personalities. You never...

We sent a photo in December and one in January, but maybe they didn't get delivered because the resolution was pretty high.

I guess I was wrong on this. I was half kidding, so if it saves the fish I guess I'd shake too.Pufferpunk wrote:I have used the shaking method with success.

Re: Mappa Puffer - looking for advice on burping?
You need to hold the puffer face UP! It won't release the air thru it's butt, only it's mouth. PP is right. We've never had a puffer need this procedure, probably because we never transfer puffers with a net, but instead use a glass bowel (smaller fish) or coax them into a plastic bag. Here is a wh...

Re: Porcupine Puffer Needs Help!
Please help quickly! My porcupine puffer is not eating. He can't open his mouth in order to eat his food. He goes for the food, but his mouth can't open very wide so he can't eat it. His belly is looking very small now. The last time he ate well was 3 days ago. You describe a problem that needs to ...

Re: Oblio is fat, missing Damsel
You got that right! Ironically we put 3 hard cerith snails and a fighting conch in the tank today. We think they are too big to eat, but we'll soon find out. It's a win- win, if he eats them it will be good for his teeth and they'll be gut loaded with algae, If he doesn't they'll clean the tank. A&a...

Oblio is fat, missing Damsel
After 2 months of peaceful co-habitation our 1-1/4 inch Domino Damsel, Spot, began spending more and more of his time swimming within a few inches of and often even brushing against his good friend Oblio, our 5-1/2 inch Orbicular Burrfish. It was hard to get a photo without both fish in the picture....

Nope, no boiling live rock. Bleach dip followed by an extended soak in fresh water dosed with prime, then air dry.Pufferpunk wrote:DO NOT BOIL LIVE ROCK!!!
