Re: I know this is terrible, but i need your opinion?

No, you don't need a skimmer. Honestly, though, if you had a 100 gallon with 2 GSPs (and not much else), you could get it up and running as a full marine for pretty cheap. Marine tanks (imo) are relatively inexpensive if you're not growing coral. They are a little more hassle, though. All you need i...

Re: Abei rare in the US?

I think it might be season, because we seem them often enough up here in Canada (now, not "often" like guppies, but for puffers, it's often enough). A place here can order some for us if we wanted some. Just have to keep your eye open and constantly ask your LFS if they can order them (or ...

Re: White Stringy Thingy in Tank

If you've shared equipment between the two tanks, I would treat both. No point in treating and then turning around and having to do it again later. :) There are a few kinds of meds you can use for internal parasites. Jungle Labs Parasite Clear is great when the puffer is not eating (as it can work b...

Re: Disposing of Chem. Waste from Tests

I just dilute with water when I pour down the drain. Honestly the 5-ish drops of chemical are nothing compared to some of the harsh chemicals that get tossed in some labs. I presume they would have to throw a huge label that said "DO NOT FLUSH" if they didn't want it going down the drain. ...

Re: My Beloved Female Congo Has Died!

It is a very hard feeling, for sure. I accidentally killed a porcupine puffer while trying to clean his QT (he had severe marine ich) and I felt horrible. However, there's not much you can change, and dreading it only makes everything else worse, so you just have to have enjoyed the time you had and...

Re: Mis Diagnosis Of ICH?? With PICS now!!

The dots on his skin are good things! Puffers have spines (as mentioned a few times above) that they use for self-defense when they puff up. I have an Abei that looks a lot like yours, and his spines look almost identical to yours. So, no need to worry about them, and no need to wish them away, eith...

Re: Swelling in throat, not eating

I was under the impression that only Boxfish will nuke a tank with toxins? I could be very wrong about this, of course. Sorry to hear it's not going well. :( I did hear of a person you used to do operations on their fish all the time. Apparently fish are very durable when it comes to being cut open....

Re: OMG My Tank Broke!!!

Or a fire, since even my little 10g is a bit much to just put under my arm and carry out the door When I first got my tanks, my Dad was telling me about when he had a 20-30 gallon tank. They were moving in a couch with one of those hide-away beds in it. Well, they set the couch down, and the hide-a...

Re: White Stringy Thingy in Tank

Aye, sounds like it's probably internal parasites or worm in your puffer. Might have been contracted from the Endlers if your puffer never had this before. Here's a long story of Annabelle's IPs from edmlfc1 and how she dealt with it. There are some photos (near the bottom of the first page) of the ...

Re: Monotrete Abei In 20 Gallon?

This is a little late, but I really feel like a 25 gallon is the minimum for a full grown Abei. My Abei is pretty large (4 inches or so), and I had him in a 28 gallon bowfront. He definitely looked like he wanted more room, so he's been transferred into a 40 gallon breeder, which I feel is a good si...

Re: Abei Puffer Feeding Questions

Abei puffers can be stubborn. You might have to try frozen shrimp (thawed first, of course) and see if he'll go for that. If not... uhh... start breeding crayfish? ;)

Re: Poor Abe! Everyone Pray! *Update*

Sorry to hear that it's happened to you, too! :( It's bothersome to see such faulty equipment when dealing with pets. Hopefully the better heaters work out well. I haven't picked one up yet, heh. Abe's doing well. His eye healed up nicely and he can still see out of it (yay!). :D It seems that since...
