Three small snails for 5 puffers is way under feeding.

IME, they stop when they're full, but you'll have to see if yours are like that or not. Personally, I throw in over 30 snails for my 8 travancoricus, and the same for the 5 irrubescos.

I've read on two sources online that female lorteti have no belly markings, while female irrubesco do have belly stripes. Is that 100% or is it possible for one or the other to not conform to that? I ask because I got lucky and found some irrubescos for sale locally, and picked up four females, but ...

Congrats Beth, on getting a fish you've been seeking! I love that feeling.

I do weekly 50% WC's on all my tanks, and that keeps my fish in excellent health.

Plan on feeding them mostly blood worms, and it's best to cultivate the snails in a separate place if you can.

They probably do get a little nippy with each other when I'm not around, when I do have time to observe them, they are usually in different parts of the tank hiding.
