Though I still don't feel Chongo was his usually instant hunt and destory self he did react quickly to the presence of the crabs in the tank. One he hovered over and sucked him up for some food the other crab quickly hid under...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

Thanks for all of your help, I think I am going to try and adjust the light cycle to more of what I am experiencing to see if he is just tired from not enough night time. I am also going to cut back on his feedings and see what happens when I introduce some live foods in 3 or four days. I am hoping ...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

It couldn't hurt, I'm not sure if he's bord or not..Most puffers will pase the glass if they are bord. It's just hard to figure out really. As soon as Pookie sees me walk into the room he's at the glass wanting me to feed him or at least acknowledge that he exist lol Chongo doesn't express any sight...

Busybones- Ok so I am not that far off on the lighting, The room he is in is dim and no direct sunlight on the tank. I just have the full hood on this tank not the two seperate ones. Might be something to look into for me. Just wondering your thoughts on reagganging the tank to spice up his life a l...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!
I think two or three days would be fine. In the wild it's been said that they can go several days without eating. I find it hard to make my puffers skip feeding days but you need to get to the bottom of the problem in case it's something that can cause more problems late...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

If your fish appears blind without any previous trauma or infection to it it's likely caused by excessive lighting or poor nutrition. Dimming the lighting and improving the diet can in these cases help prevent more fish from going blind but will not help the fish that has already gone blind. I know ...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

So if you followed that gallon/inch rule, you think your puffer would be OK in a 6g tank? That rule is only for 1-2" slim-bodied fish only. I would get your tests done at your LFS to be sure they are correct. No i do not think he would be fine in a 6 gallon tank. The fish needs room to turn ar...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

putting food in with the tongs may not be a good indicator, since he may be responding with "learned behavior" at feeding time that response may be influenced by smell, sound, and especially timing if his feeding schedule is consistent Agreed I believe the responce to the tongs is a learne...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

Your tank is overloaded and you aren't doing enough water changes. Period.
I understand what your saying as I said before, As far as the bio load goes I do get that as well. If the blindness was due to water quality I would imangine that ph/amonoia/Nitrate ect something would be off. Aside f...

Re: Fahaka Puffer Blind?!

As far a the breakfast in bed idea, I do know what you mean here I also keep a green spoted puffer that I bread from "freshwater" to full salt. I feed him generally the same types of food he did get lazy with the tongs, so I got back to more ghost shrimp, snails, hermits, ect. Chongo (Faha...
