Thanks all, I would consider keeping another puffer - an mbu would be amazing but seeing as I fell into mbu ownership without knowing about their potential size, this time I would opt for something a little smaller. yeah had a look but this is deffo not worms - I have found a vet who can sort it out on Monday but I'll have to keep him happy till then. thanks for the help I'll keep you all informed.

another picture showing the severity, I believe I may have inadvertantly caused the issue myself by overfeeding him. I had feed him 2-3 cockles 3 times a week for the last couple of years when it occured to me that he looked a little thin compared to other mbu's so i decided to up his feeding to 3-4...

I feed my mbu on frozen whole shell cockles they cost £5.99 for 1/2kg in the uk so at Barrys current size a bag lasts around a month. I try to vary it with Prawns when we have them and the odd langoustine treat
