Re: Hello from the UK

Jeni, I think she left the tropical fish in the smaller tank and the new one is going to be brackish. Welcome Sooz! The dip strip test kits are.. ok. I prefer the liquid test kits where you put drops into a test tube of water if you are starting a new tank. When its established and running and you'r...

Re: Is it best to buy the smallest Dp's you can get?

Where do you get the idea they only live to be 2 years old? I can't say I've ever heard anything at all about that. And people often say bettas only live to be a year or two and I've kept them alive and healthy 5+ years. I don't remember how long my dwarfs lived, its been many years since I've kept ...

Re: Porcupine Puffer Has Fin Rot and Popeye

I would agree, for a tank that heavily stocked you are probably not getting accurate nitrate readings. Water changes (watch your salinity closely so you don't crash the tank), full doses of melafix and start thinking about a larger tank or homes for some of those fish.. a 75 isn't nearly big enough ...

Re: intro and my new puffer tank

Its a decent setup for 2 GSP's, possibly 3. I would strongly recommend you reconsider going full reef though, GSP's will nip at and kill many corals and your clean up crew. And since they are messy eaters that produce a lot of waste, and corals need pristine water, its not the best situation to be t...

Re: New Dwarf puffers lethargic, not eating.

Yes, you should be cleaning up the uneaten food. Corydoras are armored catfish, BUT dwarf puffers are mean little suckers that can and will nip fish to death. Corys are so sweet and have no sense of territory that they'd probably often wander into their way. The shrimp will do clean up work for you,...

Re: Orbicular Burrfish (Cyclichtys orbicularus) Observations

The last time I moved, I still don't know exactly what happened, but she died. Somewhere in the transport process her body became very stiff and hard, and while she was still breathing and her eyes were moving, she could not swim or move. I moved her the way I always have, in a clean cooler with a p...

Re: Sexing irrubesco, easy or not?

That's part of the fun of sexing just about any species of fish. When they are in a fish store they are #1 generally juveniles so they are not yet showing sexual characteristics, and #2, they are stressed out so their colors are dulled and muted and they are not showing what they would show when com...

Re: New Dwarf puffers lethargic, not eating.

In my experience, dwarf puffers are the most picky eaters of all the puffer species. I put mine in a heavily planted tank that had a well established red cherry shrimp and ramshorn snail population, and I also had a supplier for live blackworms lined up. They never accepted any sort of dead or pelle...

Re: GSP is still small in size

While I don't consider myself an expert in anything, I like to think I have a decent idea of what I'm doing with GSP's. I've had one now for nearly 3 years, in a full marine 60 gallon tank (established and running long before he went in). HE HAS NEVER GROWN. He's still only maybe an inch long. His b...

Re: My name is Stratters, and I am suffering from MTS

I can honestly say I'm a recovered addict but its a dangerous balancing act ;) At the moment, I have more tanks in storage than I have running. But the ones I have running are pretty big (29 is the smallest, then a 75, a 90, a 60) LOL

Re: Does my dwarf puffer have ick?

I don't see anything on the picture either.. can you get a better one that shows the tail or what you are talking about? I do agree 5 gallons is too small for that many fish (bioload wise) and while your nitrates aren't outrageously high, the fish are all just babies and are going to get bigger (and...

Re: HELP! pea puffer is not right...

Found a reference that it may take up to 3 days in the bath for it to work. So there's a basic idea, maybe try that in a few days if she doesn't come around and you don't have any other ideas.

Re: HELP! pea puffer is not right...

And it says don't feed them anything else while treating until it passes (don't want the food just all blocking up).. but she's not eating so that's not a problem. I can't say I ever witnessed my dwarfs poo either when I kept them.. they are sneaky little evil fish, in many ways :)

Re: HELP! pea puffer is not right...

Did a quick search and found this: Treatment Constipation is treated primarily by providing high-fiber foods that can act as a laxative. During the treatment phase, no other foods should be given (and certainly not pellets, flake or freeze-dried foods). Tinned peas are the classic laxative for most ...
