Sad day, I'm moving and I can't take my tank.

Hey folks, been a while since I poked my head in around here, how's everyone doing? As you saw from my title, not so good around my place though. We're moving in 2-4 weeks (and not because we want to. I'd rather not go into it) and I can't bring my tank with my GSP, think he's 8+ years now, solo in ...

Re: 20G High for an A. Silus!

20g highs can be rough for plants. Unless you have really good lighting, and I don't mean just a plant bulb in whatever lamp came with it, the light doesn't get down to the bottom of the tank well enough. The difference in just 2 or 3 inches in height of your light can really change what will and wo...

Re: Hmm, odd dwarf puffer behavior

Hmm sorry I kind of forget people don't know me around here anymore, and I assume they know my fishkeeping skills. The tank and fish are over 3 years old, it has been very stable, both chemically and behaviorally. There is an obvious hierarchy, which she is in the middle of. The only time there is a...

Hmm, odd dwarf puffer behavior

So I have a mature planted 29g dwarf puffer tank with 5 puffers 1 male, 4 females. After doing a water change yesterday, I woke up this morning to find one of the females completely puffed up. Now I've seen them occasionally puff when they get into little spats, but she doesn't deflate. I put my arm...

F8's natural environs?

So wife and I are making the rounds of the pet stores, and she sees two f8s that were housed with a bunch of dwarfs, mostly because they were smaller(!) than the dwarves. Well she falls in love with them, and next thing I know I'm setting up my 30g tank again. I want to try to replicate their natura...

Re: New to GSP's and correcting misinformation.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in here about black bellies. I had 2 GSPs that I got from different locations and times. One simply had a black belly all the time. As a matter of fact when he got stressed or sick, his belly lightened up to a light gray color. The other one was classic coloring, ...

Another F8 error

Found another error: Tetraodon biocellatus ... Care: Despite other reports to the contrary, this species requires brackish water for good health. Introduce to a fully cycled aquarium, and maintain and a low-to-medium salinity. Strong filtration is recommended. A tank size of 15 gallons for one Figur...

The good news is the fahaka is a pure freshwater fish. The pet store was doing him an injustice keeping him in brackish. While the truth is we don't know for sure what keeping fish in the wrong salinity does, the end result is a shortening of their life span. My guess is he probably wasn't at the pe...

Sounds about right Rocker. We've probably all seen aggression in an overcrowded tank, where a few fish will sit in a a small area and be attacked whenever they leave it, or harassed constantly. This isn't like that. The spats happen with days or even weeks between them, which led me to believe it wa...

Ok let me rephrase the question. Has anyone else who's kept or is keeping a decent sized dwarf puffer only tank noticed similar "politics" amongst their fish? Keep in mind this tank is over a year old, as are the fish, and I have observed mating amongst them. Actually that might be the ans...

My fig.8 seems to definitely be a hunter/killer. Hes killed all the BBGs we had in with him, just one bite and he leaves them. He also gets ghost shrimp for snacks/entertainment and they don't last long either. So be prepared to not be able to keep anything with your fig. 8.

Well I can say you are correct about the fact that eggs hatch later. Thats one of the reasons that frequent vacuuming helps, as the eggs fall to the ground.
As far as the salinity goes, I can't help you there. I don't know enough about it.

A 55 huh? The problem you're going to run into is that its too small for a fahaka (125 minimum) and the other solitary puffers (though any puffer can be solitary without a problem) are much smaller and you'll look like you have an empty tank. Most of the lurker types (and somone correct me if I'm wr...

So I kinda have to laugh.
When I made the tank, conventional wisdom for dps was 2-3g ea. Now its 5, huh?

Well, a different tank isn't an option at this time. Thanks for your opinion, but I was really more interested in other peoples experience with their DPs behaviors.
