Re: Spinning dwarf puffer

Update on the puffer. This is very bizzare, the puffer seems to be fine now after a couple days. I really don't know what was wrong with it but now it seems fine.

Re: Spinning dwarf puffer

The puffer is still alive now, hiding in a plant. I have the room darkened to minimize stress, whether or not that actually does anything I don't know. Water quality is the same as before, no changes.

Re: Spinning dwarf puffer

Not trapped air..the puffer has been sitting at the bottom now except when I go to look at it and it swims away...still doing the spinning thing. It sorta seems like it can't control one half of itself? I'm not really sure.

Re: Spinning dwarf puffer

I was afraid of that :( I know she's lived longer than 3 years...
Pufferpedia says 5+
I've been doing more research, some things say it might have a central nervous system problem
I don't think there is anything I can do about that

Spinning dwarf puffer

Hi, my dwarf pufferfish that I have kept for about 3 to 4 years started acting strange this morning. It has been swimming in an erractic manner and has been sort of twisting around. I checked my water, found nothing out of the ordinary, looked for signs of a parasite or maybe something it was trying...

Salinity 1.024
PH: 8.5
Ammonia: 0ppm - undetectable
Nitrite: 0ppm - undetectable
Nitrate: 0 - 15 ppm
Temp: 78 degrees F

I couldn't really find anything that would help me in that other post.

Re: Porcupine with lockjaw and cryptocaryon

Yes the bio-spira was refrigerated and the tank had been running for over a year. There was a power outage while I was away and I suspect that is was caused the nitrate spike. I will post the results of the water tests I am able to purchase locally tonight.

Re: Porcupine with lockjaw and cryptocaryon

I have been feeding him krill since about October. The tank was cycled using Marineland Bio-spira. It is filtered with an Emperor 280 and a "Phosban Reactor" filled with Seachem Seagel. I am aware how large of a tank he will need soon and have been planning for it.

Porcupine with lockjaw and cryptocaryon

My porcupine puffer has started not to eat. He was originally on a diet of freshwater guppies when I purchased him from my local LFS. I then moved him to squid which he quickly tired of. Currently he eats (was eating) freeze-dried krill. I had a nitrate spike in my aquarium which resulted in my puff...

Re: New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

http://www.novalek.com/kordon/ich_attack/index.htm

Thats what I bought and it says its safe for live rock and such and the people at the pet store said it wouldn't harm my biological filter as much as other ich meds do. All I had to do is take out my activated charcoal.

Re: New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

update on porcupine puffer: It turns out this is a more severe case of ich than I thought. My whole tank is very sour and the water in it has gone to horrible levels, this was probably caused by the medicine I used, ich attack by kordon. My porcupine puffer and lunare wrasse are in a QT. I have been...

Re: New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

He has a lot of spots on his fins and tail, he is breathing heavy and has his tail curled tight against his body. I am getting very worried about him because this is probably the reason why he was being such a picky eater. He keeps puffing up too.

Re: New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

:( A few minutes ago while I was trying to get him to eat again I noticed white spots on his tail and fins. I am pretty sure this is ich since I saw a picture and it looks just like that. The only medication I have now is melafix and pimafix and the petstore isn't open until tomorrow. I don't really...

Re: New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

This morning I tried the shrimp on a stick except it was cut up smaller. He seemed to like it and his belly looked full. Yes the live rock I bought was supposed to be cured. I have a question about the protein skimmer though. I have seen many online but the only one I can find is for a nano reef. Is...

New Porcupine Puffer fish not eating

Hi I'm Kyle and I decided to not get a puffer for my 20 gallon tank I was talking about, but instead just use my bigger 100 gal tank that I have set up as salt water. It has been running for about a week now and I have fully cycled it quite fast thanks to live rock, live sand, and bio-spira. I purch...
