Oh my word. Lisa, that is awful! It's tragic, really - I'm sure the children weren't being malicious, in their innocence they didn't know any better. I'm very sorry for your loss!! :_(

But even if they are stunted, moving into a larger tank is still an improvement, and you may notice a growth spurt as they "stretch out". I admire your optimism, but that's not how stunting works. :) Agreed it would still be a great improvement, but only insofar as it prevents further stu...

Results vary from bacteria to meds, to water parameters, to treatment periods. I suggest that if you see no change whatsoever at the end of the sulfa treatment, replace all the water in the tank and start with the Furan-2.

but would my GSP attack it? Definitely, if the octopus doesn't get it first. They require species-only tanks. Do you know what kind of octopus it was? In addition to an escape-proof tank, other things that need to be considered are: 1) any equipment in the tank is liable to be disassembled, 2) you ...

Nitrofurans are reportedly more effective in slightly acid pH, whereas the sulfas are more effective in slightly alkaline settings. Assuming you have a pH of around 7.6-7.8, my preference would be to hold out for the Furan-2 and treat with it. Make sure you buy enough for at least two full treatment...

Where do you live?
How about Furan-2 (Nitrofurazone) or Triple Sulfa?

I think it is a mistake to think there's something lodged in there just because the mouth is inflammed, and putting him under may further jeapordize his condition. I would probably use Kanamycin sulfate (Seachem: Kanaplex). You don't want to mix meds, though, so clearing the water in the QT tank is ...

Poor guy.... That's a serious looking internal infection. I think you should be doing maximum-strength antibacterial baths at this point. What meds do you have available to you? With an infection that severe I would have a bottle of clove oil on hand just in case it progresses to the point where eut...

You mean this: http://forums.waterwolves.com/index.php?showtopic=100746 T. pustulatus has always struck me as exactly the same as a lineatus, except for colouration. Perhaps it's not a separate species but a colour morph, along the same lines of what we see in the T. nigropunctatus family? Although,...

p.s. the forum over at http://www.plantedtank.net/ is a trustworthy resource. Although the folks over there tend to advocate a "Crank up the Lights! Crank up the CO2! Dose like hell and do 50% partials weekly!" attitude with almost perfect unanimity. Which is cool if you have money to burn...

Don't use RO unless it's reconstituted. Especially when injecting CO2 you need a high buffering capacity! KH of 5 degrees or higher is highly recommended, otherwise you run the risk of having a pH crash - read: dead biofilter. That said, when finding the right CO2 settings, pH is meaningless without...

I have a whisper that is the noisiest of the bunch! The impeller likely needs replacement, though. We installed a Rena Filstar XP1 on our bedroom 20g and it's dead quiet. If it weren't for the plants moving around in the current, I would have to check to make sure it's plugged in. In general, canist...

Did you treat him with any drugs? Have you taken readings on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? How long have you had this fish?
