Teeth length for trimming.

At what point should a SA puffer's teeth be trimmed? In the puffer dentistry article, one particular puffer has VERY long teeth, is it advisable to only trim them once they are that long? Or would it be necessary before the teeth reach that stage? I'd just like a little more clarifying so I know exa...

My SAP got a taste for granulated fish food. I got a packet free with a fish magazine, and after tasting a few and spitting it out, he was crunching them down super-fast! I don't think there is a problem as long as the F8 is still mostly eating whatever diet you feel is best. A little bit of flake f...

I said the same thing earlier in my thread; "I was just wondering... if their teeth grow so fast even with a constant supply of snails... what happens in the wild? Or is it something that only happens in captivity.. maybe in the wild they are constantly hunting and eating snails and other hard ...

Another update. My puff has been eating better and better :D He's decided he will eat the tiny snails without me crushing them first, and then anything I reckon is a bit too big, I'll partially crush and let him get on with it. Success! Thankyou. Now i'll just have to watch out for his teeth getting...

He's eating the partially crushed snails much more easily than the whole ones (even though they were tiny!) Maybe he was fed crushed snails at the shop... and was waiting for me to smush 'em... :P

I will give him a choice today, tiny snails (eye sized like yesterday) or partially crushed larger snail! I was just wondering... if their teeth grow so fast even with a constant supply of snails... what happens in the wild? Or is it something that only happens in captivity.. maybe in the wild they ...

Thanks all for your help. My main concern for keeping the teeth in check is that the lil fella is so small, I'd rather have to leave teeth trimming until he's a bit bigger! If I had to at his current size I'd be completely panicked about either squishing 'im in my hands or cutting his mouth off or y...

Thanks for the info. So, if I presume my SAP is just crunching a little bit of the shell at the opening to get to the snail- is this still sufficient to keep his teeth in check? He is only a little guy at an inch and a bit long, I'm giving him the smallest snails I can get (trying to go with the who...

How SA Puffs eat snails.

I was just curious as to how to check if my SAP is eating snails properly, he is starting to eat them - i think. He is readily chasing after the snails and attacking them, but the shells don't seem to get crushed- he will attack a few times and then leave them (and then cruise around to look for any...

Excellent, cool, thanks for the reply. I'll try feeding 'em again today. They should be hungry and want some snail goodness. And hopefully they will be as keen as your SAP :)

Did your SAP eventually search out the snails and start eating them or did you have to encourage him with the tweezer-dangling method or anything similar? Just wondering as I have just acquired two (one to go to my sister once I know they are all eating ok) today and they are going nuts at the side ...

tell me about it, I've had to mail order 2 SAPs from trimar. I took back my GSP after I found out it should of been brackish when its older, and the dwarves were so small.
