Re: Prolapsed Intestine (was Dogface protruding...)

Quick update, more to follow later. When I awoke this morning and ran downstairs to check on her, Baby was sleeping (sorry, Baby, gotta look, can't wait, wake up...). She swam up (begging, already, of course) and, surprise, it was as if nothing had ever happened, everything looked normal, and she'd ...

Re: Dogface extruding ??? from anus

That's what I was afraid of -- and yes, he/she had krill earlier in the day, though my husband states that it wasn't a large amount. What does one do to attempt to fix it, though? Googling listed some descriptions that sounded similar and one thread discussing a fish in a similar condition, but I di...

Dogface extruding ??? from anus

First off, specifics -- Salinity 1.025, NH3 undetectable, NO3 <20 (water change was planned for tonight, but we spent the evening trying to troubleshoot the whatever it is instead. Tank is a 45 gallon inhabited by the dogface (3" currently, and yes, a larger tank is in the works) and a 1" ...

Bertie is leader of the pack! (long and anecdotal)

My Val Bertie has had a variety of sleepspots (do all puffers sleep as much as he does -- Bertie sleeps more hours than I do!). He (yes, I'm leaning towards male as the gender now...) first simply slept on the floor of the tank, then started to anchor himself wedged into the corner of the tank (does...

Re: why no u.s.-puffs?

I can't even begin to guess what species it was (and it was more years than I care to count ago), but my Marine Bio HS class was seining in Jamaica Bay at the end of the summer (Gulf Stream time) and I ended up with this little fish cupped in my hands that, at the time, I thought spit up on me, it h...

Thanks -- I'll watch for markings as she gets older then, and she can be a "she" until she decides otherwise. And yes, she does have a "look" about her -- hard to describe, but Bertie really manages the baby look quite well every so often. She's the coolest fish in the tank, quit...

Valentini Gender ID?

Subject asks it all, I guess... I've just posted some pictures of my little one, and I've no clue how to figure if she's a she or if she's a he. One of the pictures I've stumbled across somewhere showed a Valentini with a dark line on the stomach; I've read that other breeds have similar markings on...

Thanks for all the replies, and thanks for helping me get my post into the right place! I'm not totally sure what has thus far been eaten -- there is one Astria snail in the tank that she's left alone, and there's one empty shell of a snail I'll need to learn more about (hubby had pre-arra...

Juvie Valentini and snails

I have a juvenile just-home Valentini that is slowly working her (I don't know gender for sure, just seems like a her...) way through the snail population in my isolation tank, or at least I think she is. Thing is, there seems to be more *empty* shells than I recall, but she doesn't seem to be doing...
