Re: snail breeding update -- SUCCESS !
You could keep ghost shrimp in there. I keep them in mine until I feed them to my puffers.

Re: snail breeding update -- SUCCESS !
I can't see any reason why that wouldn't work. Snails are live-bearers. No eggs to worry about. I also keep ghost shrimp in my snail breeder (aka puffer kitchen). I feed one or two of each per week. The rest of the time they get frozen food.

Re: snail breeding update -- SUCCESS !
In my 5.5 gal snail breeding setup I have: Gravel, A few rocks, A piece of driftwood, A cuttlebone (to add calcium and make their shells harder), 2 fake plants, one moss ball, and a piece of slate. I use a HOB filter. They bred like crazy for a while but have since slowed down. I've since added a he...

Re: brackish cichlids
Sadly, I spoke before I did the research. The green chromides get way to big for my current setup.
But, you're right. It would be cool to watch the orange chromides clean the green chromides. Maybe if I ever step up to a larger setup I will do that. Until then... no greens for me.

Re: Who else shold share my Fig-8's 29 gal?
You might be able to get away with adding a chromide or two. I've just added three orange chromides to my 46 gal tank. They are getting along well with my F8 and 3 bumble bees. They produce a lot of waste though. I'm not sure on their exact gallon needs; however they don't grow too large.

Re: brackish cichlids
Update: I've had the chromides in my tank for a few days now. They're doing well. I haven't witnessed any confrontations with the puffer yet. Their orange color is getting more vibrant. They're a great addition to the tank. They also eat algae which I didn't know. A nice bonus. However, they do prod...

Re: brackish cichlids
Mike, I went to Old Town Aquarium today... you were right. They had three orange chromides in their overcrowded brackish tank. I bought all three; they've been in my aquarium for about an hour now. I'll give you an update on how they're doing in a week or so. Thanks again for the tip! That is a pret...

Re: brackish cichlids
Thanks Mike, I'll check it out. I actually have an uncle who lives right by there... his salt water tank is actually one of those listed on their website. I appreciate the tip!

Re: brackish cichlids
I have a 46 g brackish setup with 1 F8 and 3 bumble bees. I've been trying for a few weeks to track down some chromides to add to my tank but as of yet have not been able to locate any. Does anyone know of online sites that actually have them in stock (I've found several that are perpetually "o...

I also just began snail breeding. I picked up a 2.5 gallon tank, a good sized rock, used some gravel I had in another tank and added 4 mature trapdoor snails. The next day there were 2 babies. The next day 4. Then 7. I'm growing snails faster than my F8 can eat them! All I do is drop in some broken ...

F8 and Bumble Bees
I have a 46 gallon with 1 young F8 and five bumble bees. I put the BB's in before the puffer. I went to the store and watched the puffer I had been eyeing several times before purchasing him. They had the puffers in the same tank with silver scats. My puffer was chosen because he seemed to be the mo...
