Re: Mbu very tempted what do you keep them in?

I totally agree with Flas.dan, pefect advice. the tank itself is ok IMO but bigger would be better, filtration with and Mbu and arrowana would nned to be pretty special, a sump ideally or a bank of FX 5's IMO. My Mbu was a gentl community member but not all Mbu will be so its a luck of the drawer. y...

Re: MBU growth rate

I only had Clooney for two years and he was 17 inches when he finally died, all because I had a tiny 5ft tank. I swear I will only get another Mbu if I can section of half a basement and flood it

Re: mbu growth rate

I agree with Flashdan, 8-12 inches per year in the first two years and then I imaging it would slow down a little. Also consider they don't just get long, their girth increases greatly too ;)

Re: My Mbu Bit Me Last Night

I once narrowly escaped losing a finger when stupidly at feeding time I pused a floating plant out the way and Clooney thought oooh prawn. I squealed like a girl I can tell you, much to my my wife amusement. Clooney looked rather confused over the whole thing  I'm glad yours is too small to do ...

Re: "Wild Caught Mbu Puffer - $400.00"

I had an inrersting conversation the other day which might open your minds to this possibility. It was suggested that they could be bred on huge fish farms in massive pens in stretches of river that the Mbu are natural too? Its unlikely but more likely than a huuuuuge tank. If you have ever seen the...

Re: tankmates with small mbu

Hi there Dom, I would not add any fish to that tank as before long your tiny little Mbu will be far too big for it, less than 2 years IME. I am speaking from experience here, I have that tank and kept my Mbu in there, 2 years old and 17 inches from baby until he died which was very traumatic for Clo...

Re: puffer compatibility?

I have to agree, there are not really any suitable puffers IMO those that are big enough to handle the aggression of the cichlids will kill or inflict major damage to the cichlids and the smaller ones would be an annoyance to the bigger fish with their constant nipping. Imagine living in a box with ...

Re: Mbu Puffer not eating

glad to hear that Brian is looking better. He's a lovely looking fish for sure, all I can say is restrict the feeding to help reduce the nitrate levels production. These pimples are fairly common and a reflection of water qulaity IMO. I found Clooney had these when water changes had lapsed. I loved ...

Re: Mbu Puffer not well Pic Posted

same advice for Snails from the garden too, as long as you and your neighbours are pesticide free then you can use them. Catch them, which should be easy enough lol and then keep them in a tub and feed on good quality veg for a few days. This will purge them of any bad plant matter they may have eat...
