Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
An update on Eirik. I’ve been gone on Christmas vacation for 2 1/2 weeks, and I was nervous about leaving Eirik for that long. A friend of mine gave him food a few times while I was gone. Yesterday I came home, and Eirik was so hungry that he even didn’t pretend to be hiding. He looked well, just a ...

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
Today’s update: There’s nothing wrong with Eirik’s appetite now! Today he came out less than a minute after dinner was derved, and he even let me watch him eating. And when he does that, I can keep a better eye on his health. And he looks better day by day. The meds against IPs must have worked, eve...

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
He ate his dinner again today. He came and got it right after I left his tank. When I came back, he stopped chewing and dropped his food. Obviously I am still scary. :) Now he has eaten three days in a row, so my worries about him not eating is gone. He looks much better too, with a full belly. My o...

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
He ate his dinner today too! I gave him a little more food than yesterday, and he ate half of it. So it seems we have agreed on a feeding place. And that it is too early to increase the amount of food he gets. But he has eaten two days in a row, which is very good news.

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
I went to town to buy earthworms today, and they were out! :( That can happen in the winter. And then they don’t get new ones until spring. So no earthworms for Eirik until spring. That complicates things for Christmas, as I will be away for a while (yes, I know, bad planning - but it was now I had ...

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
He doesn’t have a cave, but a wooden root he hides under. It’s his favorite place.

Re: New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
I have planned a trip to town tomorrow, to buy earthworms, but I think maybe it will be difficult to get some that are small enough. And with -10 degrees Celcius (14 degrees Farenheit) outside, there is absolutely no way getting any in the garden. Not until spring. But he has eaten today! :D I dropp...

New puffer! Hopefully an Abei!
Last week I got a new puffer in the house. He is supposed to be an Abei, but I don’t have any pictures yet. He does not want to have his picture taken. I had expected to get an adult puffer, but he is tiny! And he clearly has IPs. I wanted him to settle in before medicating him. But today I will. An...

Re: Puffer upset after every water change
Usually my WC schedule is about once a week. This time it took 2-3 weeks between them. I change 50 % each time. I don't add anything to the water. It's not neccessary here. They don't add chlorine to the water here (they rarely do that in Norway now). They filter the water over marble and UV-light i...

Puffer upset after every water change
Anyone else has a puffer that gets upset after water changes? Ragnhild does NOT like them. It’s not when I do them (then she hides), but for the next day or so. She gets angry and puffs a lot! Yesterday I did another water change, and yesterday evening she puffed several times. This morning she puff...

I have moved!
Last week I moved across half of Norway. I worried most of all how Ragnhild, my cutcutia would handle it. She has handled changes poorly the short time I have owned her. But the surprise is that she is one of my fishes that so far has handled moving the best! :D She is eating well (actually coming u...
Re: Fungus
Ragnhild is now well! I ended up not using Methylene Blue when I finally got it. I didn't want to give Ragnhild the stress of being caught twice a day, and put in a bath of Methylene Blue. Ragnhild doesn't handle changes very well. So the stress alone could have finished her off. But using salt work...

Re: How to activate a bored puffer
She has several. Her tank used to be a catfish tank, so there's lots of caves! Luckily she has calmed down the last days. She has stopped window surfing. Which is very good, because in days we will be moving! Across half of Norway! And Ragnhild handles changes very poorly, so I am very nervous how s...

How to activate a bored puffer
Ragnhild, my cutcutia is stressing a lot by the side glass in her tank these days. I wonder if there is something I can do to make life more exciting for her. Her tank is full of places to hide and explore. She doesn't handle change well at all. After I put two new plants in her tank, she hid for al...
