Re: Question: Safely Feeding Mussels, Shrimp, etc ?

Hi ! This is Rouge/Jackie replying . .and thank you for your quick response! 1. Do you buy this fresh sea food from your local grocery store? 2. If it is fresh (like mussel's) do you take it home and instantly freeze it, (uncooked) then it is dead -- the butcher said No, No. I do not think you cook ...

Question: Safely Feeding Mussels, Shrimp, etc ?

Almost two years ago I lost my precocious "Puffy", Anthron Reticularis, due to an inadvertant over-cleaning of his tank and extenuating circumstances. Soon I am going to acquire a two year old Tetradon Lineatus (Fahaka). Of course I have been researching on the wonderful Puffer Forum. I ha...

Re: Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

Hello Puf Friends . . . I am happy to report the DP's are doing very well and the blue-green algae seems to be eliminated! I did the 1/2 dose treatments for 6 days with a few small water changes. Then a large water change, and added charcoal to the filter system. All seems to be well and I do very m...

Re: Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

Hi Puf Pals, I did start a 1/2 dose/day of the anti-biotic two days ago, the Puf's seem fine. The fish store owner told me to continue this 3-4 days until I do not see any of the blue-green algae/bacteria. Then he will help me clean the tank and we will install a magnum to assist in the cleaning pro...

Re: Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

You know what . . . I think it is coming back! I see traces of it on a few pieces of substrate six days after the black-out. :o If this continues I think I will treat the tank with the 1/2 dose of E.M. Erythromycin if it continues to appear. The person recommending this owns a fish shop and has used...

Re: Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

Hello Puffer Pals 8) Good News! Three days after the "black out" I removed the plastic and thank heavens the two DP's, and the two little catfish seemed just fine! No trace of blue-green algae in the tank - - amazing! I let them adjust to the light, fed them a light meal, and turned the li...

Re: Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

Hi Puffer Pals . . . An update ... The black out for the DP's began yesterday (Wednesday, August 27th, 4:30 p.m.). The tank is thoroughly covered in black plastic. I removed as much of the algae as possible before draping. (I worry about the oxygen but I keep checking to make certain the pump is run...

HI PUFFER Pals . . . Thank you for all the support!! Unexpectidly, I had to delay the "big blackout"! That was a good thing because now I have to decipher that amazing information from Chas Buddendorf and the Redfield ratio. I think I need to know how to measure phosphates and locate the &...

That is exactly what I am going to do - - - a complete blackout for three days. You do not think it is going to hurt the little DP'S??? Can I turn their light on just to feed them (a 3 minute process once a day).

Advise on eliminating Blue Green Algae/Bacteria from DP Tank

Hi...I need some good advise on eliminating this bacteria from my tank. I have read one article. My fish store told me to use E.M.Erythromycin, 1/2 strength mixed in 1 gallon of DP's tank water and slowly pour into the tank. Just prior to this treatment they advised me to gently scrape the top layer...
