Re: Transferring Puffer to Bigger Tank

I guess the sand has seen better days and I was looking forward to some fresh sand. I also have a new filter/pump for the larger tank. I also had a slime algae issue and recently cleaned the plants so I'm not sure how much beneficial bacteria is left on them... I'll slowly move more things from the ...

Re: Transferring Puffer to Bigger Tank

I put the filter media from her old tank into the new one, placed the sponge filter from her old tank to the new one, moved a small amount of sand, and transferred about 10 gallons of water, but that's all so far. I plan to let it cycle for a few weeks and do some water tests before transferring. I'...

Re: Transferring Puffer to Bigger Tank

She should fit into a pitcher. Do you think it's fine to just scoop her and then immediately place her in the new tank? The temp and salinity should be very similar.

Transferring Puffer to Bigger Tank

Hi there, My GSP Matcha, is three years old and outgrowing her 35 gallon tank. I'm setting up a 55 gallon tank to be her forever home but I'm very nervous about transferring her. Anyone have helpful tips so that she doesn't puff? My heart would break. I know to make sure the new tank is cycled, same...

Should I treat for Parasites?

I've seen mixed opinions on whether or not to treat a new GSP for parasites even if they aren't showing any indication of having them. What should I do? I just got a new GSP. They are acting normally, but is it good to treat them regardless? Thanks for the tips!

Re: My First GSP!

I'll be skipping a feeding day on Mondays and I'm making sure to feed him only enough to get a healthy, rounded belly. I'm also thinking of raising the salinity to 1.008 over the course of two weeks and keep it there till he gets a little older.

Re: My First GSP!

Thanks! Yes, there's little tunnels in the white "trunk" decoration. I also notice him swimming through the root branches that I have stacked in the middle. I'll be sure to rearrange the decor with water changes. I've been feeding him pond snails (the ram horn snails I have or too big so t...

My First GSP!

Everyone, meet Matcha! Matcha is in a 36 gallon tank with mangroves growing out the back. There's a custom lid I made that allows the mangroves to grow out and keep Matcha in! There's also some java fern, a marimo ball, and another aquatic plant I forget the name of. After about a month of cycling, ...

Bubble Clams/Treasure Chests

I'm currently cycling my tank for a GSP and I wanted to put one of those clams that open and closes with bubbles. I may be overthinking things, but do you think this would scare a puffer or entertain it? Anyone do this in the past with success? Thanks!

Re: Caring for Brackish Plants

Thank you for the link! My salinity is at 1.008 but I may need to get it lower. I still need to find out from the store what level their keeping the tank at. I do know that they are keeping their GSP's in Brackish water, so that's great.

Caring for Brackish Plants

Hi there, I'm setting up a tank for a GSP and want to have some live healthy plants in there for it. Does anyone have links or tips on how to keep brackish plants healthy and that won't negatively effect your GSP? What water supplement do any of you recommend to feed the plants? I currently have a H...

Hi Puffer People!

Hello all, I'm originally from the East Coast. Born and raised a beach kid. I've now planted roots in Colorado and miss water more than I thought I would. I have a small indoor pond growing blue lotus (aka Egyptian water lilies), a 2.5 gallon tank with a mystery snail/two African dwarf frogs, and a ...
