Re: Parasites in T. schoutedeni?

Just realized I never posted an update, sorry about that. He started eating and acting normal again, I don’t think it was parasites. No idea what happened but I’m just glad he’s feeling fine again.

Re: Parasites in T. schoutedeni?

At a loss on what to do. Dan's Fish responded and said it looked like empty fecal casing. Parameters are:

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10ppm

I have no way of feeding him as he won't accept anything, even live foods soaked in garlic. Not sure where to go from here.

Re: Parasites in T. schoutedeni?

Yeah I’ve let them know but no response yet. I’m really hoping it’s just a hunter strike but that poop is pretty much a guarantee of parasites.

Anyone know anything about injecting a Fenbendazole mixture into snails with a syringe? Have seen mentions of that on other forums

Re: Parasites in T. schoutedeni?

Thanks, I have Fenbedazole that I plan on using. Hope I can get him eating, if not I’ll have to figure out how to do baths.

Parasites in T. schoutedeni?

Well, after days of not eating (after having ate fine for a week), my puffer has pooped, and it doesn’t look good. I’m not sure if it’s like this because of not eating, or parasites. I’m hoping it’s not the latter, as I paid quite a bit extra to get it from Dan’s Fish, who worms and treats their con...

Re: T. schoutedeni very shy

It’s not heavily planted yet, I have a good amount of plants arriving sometime next week though. My concern right now is that he hasn’t moved much from one spot or eaten in the last couple days. Hoping the new plants will help

T. schoutedeni very shy

Hey all, Last week I finally got my hands on a T. schoutedeni from Dans Fish. Very fat, loves bloodworms, looks really healthy. I’m concerned, however, that it’s incredibly shy. It rarely moves from one spot near a piece of driftwood, unless I’m feeding it. Anything I should be concerned about, or i...

Re: Cycling 75 Gallon with seeded media

I’m using the API Test kit that tests for NH3/NH4 and I’ve read that it will detect ammonia and ammonium, which would explain why the shrimp are all still alive right? Sorry if I’m wrong about that.

Re: Cycling 75 Gallon with seeded media

Based on some research I've been doing I may be getting a false positive due to using Prime to treat the water. Is this a good assumption to make, considering all the shrimp are still alive?

Yes, they’re all still alive. I was surprised as well.

Re: Cycling 75 Gallon with seeded media

Safestart is great! I'd forget about plants though in a BW tank. They'll melt. Just an update, I added two bottles of Safe Start when I set up the tank, as well as 2 dozen ghost shrimp so that bacteria could feed off their poop (that’s the gist of a fish-in cycle, right?). This morning this ammonia...

Re: Cycling 75 Gallon with seeded media

So in another thread I read about someone just using SafeStart and being able to add the puffer right away. I only plan on having one GSP in this tank, maybe another down the road. If I add live plants right away, will the bio load be small enough initially that SafeStart will make it fine to just a...

Cycling 75 Gallon with seeded media

Hey everyone I plan on buying a 75 gallon tomorrow then getting some already seeded filter media from my LFS as well as some live plants to speed up the cycle. How long would it take for the tank to be officially cycled? Would it be instant or still take some time depending on how much media I get? ...
