Cycling isn't common knowledge. I didn't know about it until reading this forum and I've had fish for years (once again...my apologies to all the fish I've had in the past). My thing with Walmart is not the fish themselves, but the service. First of all, whoever was in the Live pets dept. didn't com...

I didn't until that day when they told me my GSP would be fine in a community tank. If I had problems with fish from them before, I blamed myself (well, I was to blame at least partially I'm sure). We got a dwarf African frog from them (he was so cute!) and he did well (considering my ignorance of t...

Ummm, I haven't, except for when I cleaned the tank (that was before I knew about water changes). With the vacuum, I got about two gals out. It was also the first time I'd vacuumed (my sincere apologies to all my fish in the past who I have not treated well due to ignorance!!). Before, I would clean...

I just vacuumed my tetra tank (10 gal) and did a partial water change. I just checked (for the first time with this tank) and the nitrates are around 80ppm!! What can I do??

Surely the LFS should have told you about cycling before they let you take the fish. Remember, I got the fish at Wally World....nuff said. He seems to be doing better this morning. His belly is not as black, and he's eating well. I'm going to Petsmart today to spend a bunch of money for him. I'll k...

my sick puffer
As I've stated in another post, my GSP has ich. He's in a 5 gal (yeah I know) and tomorrow I'm going to get some Biospira (sp). I know, I'm one of those idiots that are slowly learning (thanks to this forum, I've learned a lot already). I don't know how old he is, but he's about 1 1/2". My ques...

I'm working on getting a larger tank (which WILL be fully cycled before he goes in). I just looked in on him and he's swimming around...his color is a lot better (except for the obvious white spots) and he's eating well, so I'm hoping those are good signs. I hate to leave him, but I have to go to wo...

Confession: I haven't' really cycled my 5 gal...like I said, I have just recently (like in the past two days) learned about this. I just did a 80% water change and took out the gravel to clean it. I didn't put the gravel back in yet (don't have a vacuum thing..yet) I can't return him now...who's goi...

How I got my puffer
Okay, here goes. My name's Amanda and although I've had aquariums since I was 14, I've only learned recently that I was doing it all wrong. So I'm still learning (I don't change my water or my filter as often as I should---please don't hate me). I have a 10 gal with some tetras. I got it last year a...
