I then moved it to the new home office, built the utility box in the corner and now it's rinsing. I’d cover the back walls with black pvc sheets and use them to hide the filter inlet and the heater in the corner. Hardly visible, especially with plants, easy to do and cheap.

It's awesome to watch them exploring the tank, they're even more inquisitive than the adults, who ignore them completely, by the way.

I've trimmed some plants and it turns out there are three baby puffers there.

Strip tests are pretty much worthless. The only tests worth using are drop ones, but expiry can be an issue here.
The best solution is taking a water sample to a good LFS and asking them to run a battery of tests.
