Re: Possible Urgent Help Needed (Dwarf Puffers Gulping)

Fish gulping at the surface can also be caused by ammonia and/or nitrite poisoning, besides the high temperature. Most of those instant cycle bacteria products aren't sufficient to cycle a tank. I've read good things about tetra SafeStart on this forum and Dr. Tim's elsewhere, but even then you shou...

Re: My Tetraodon Schoutedeni

Maybe I'ts time for a small update? The puffers are now more than 6 months with me, they're still my favorite fish I've ever had. :D The tank is running great, besides some brown algae issues, but nothing too bad. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50068893912_802282b49a_z.jpg https://live.staticfl...

Re: Planning for New Tank!

@DDR2: I wasn't commenting on the contents of the article, I don't have experience with the species mentioned in it, so I'm in no position to refute anything said in the article. English isn't my first language so I might have misinterpreted Pufferpunk's reaction. I read it as saying fish are unable...

Re: Planning for New Tank!

Fish don't see their reflection. https://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/puffer-care/alone-but-not-lonely-the-importance-of-keeping-puffers-solo/ Certainly that's not true for all fish, hence the mirrors used with for example apisto's or beta's to make them flare up for pictures. I've done tha...

Re: My Tetraodon Schoutedeni

So I think is time for an update. Both have settled in really well, they get along fine for the time being so hopefully it stays that way. I’m still not convinced on the sex, I have seen one ‘bellybite-ride’ but only for a couple of seconds. So I’m not certain if that was something or just some domi...

Re: Crayfish fighting or breeding?

I’m confident that the second picture is Procambarus alleni. Based upon the claws I’d guess a female, but I’m not 100% certain. The first picture I’m not certain about, It’s a bit too small to really be able to see any details. Red swamp crayfish is generally used for procambarus clarkii. However th...

Re: Crayfish fighting or breeding?

Mayby I wasn't entirely clear, I wouldn't advise to put 2 crayfish of different species together. Presumably one of the reasons hybrids are so rare, is the fact that one often kills the other before they can reproduce. I would think the 'red swamp crayfish' is probably procambarus clarkii. The cobal...

Re: Crayfish fighting or breeding?

is there a difference? Difference in what? The pictures of the male vs female? The male has these little tubular things, in the picture they have a brown discolouration because the crayfish needed to moult. The female doesn't have those tubular shaped things (gonopods) , she has these two little do...

Re: Crayfish fighting or breeding?

What crayfish species are we talking about here? Mixing crayfish species is never a good idea imo, different species often have a different temperament... Procambarus clarkii also has blue color morphs so they could be the same species. If the blue one is a procambarus alleni, then according to some...

Re: Mbu juvenile

If my schoutedeni has eaten a lot of food the belly gets irregular and bumpy looking too maybe that's what you're seeing. It's normally gone in couple of hours. You can use imgur or any site like it to upload pictures, simply make an account upload the picture get the url and paste it in between the...

Re: Mbu juvenile

You could try some garlic-flavor. I used seachem garlic guard with mixed success depending on the food.

My puffers never say no to live snails or earthworms, in case he won't accept frozen foods and gets too skinny.

I assume you know how big these guys get?

I’ve made 2 clips, one on day 2 in the quarantine tank and one in the aquarium. I feel like they have put on some weight

Re: Puffer id

The 8 is actually not how they are identified. The eyespot by the tail is the ID point, hence the name biocellatus, or "twinspot" puffer. I didn’t know GSP’s could have such big blotches on top? I've never seen them on the GSP's sold at a local garden centre (off course sold as pure ‘fres...

Re: My Tetraodon Schoutedeni

After about 40 days in quarantine they are finally in their tank, after only a few hours there doesn’t seem to be a single snail left as far as I can see. It’s amazing to see them searching every nook and cranny for snails, I’m less enthusiastic about the teeth grinding crunching sounds but I suppos...
